The communities in the Jordan River area might be best known as some of the Salt Lake Valley's fastest-growing suburbs, but look a little closer and you'll find a region that rewards curiosity at every turn. From indigenous rock art etched into stone thousands of years ago to a life-size replica of a beloved Disney home, from a Wild West amusement park tucked inside a historic mill village to a working farm that has become the area's gathering heart, this corridor offers a wide range of experiences that defy easy categorization. Threading through it all is the Jordan River Parkway, a 40-mile urban trail system that winds from Utah Lake to the Great Salt Lake, offering scenic biking and walking access through wetlands, river corridors, and natural habitats that feel worlds away from the surrounding suburbs. Whether you're a history seeker, a family looking for a memorable afternoon, or simply someone who likes to discover what's hiding in plain sight, the Jordan River area offers something worth your time.
Midas Creek Tunnel
10600 South and Jordan River
Along the Midas Creek Trail, part of the larger Jordan River Parkway system in Riverton, there are sections where the creek passes underneath major roads through large, walkable culverts. Through the years, these tunnels became a canvas for local street art, with the bold, vivid images making the Jordan River walk (or run) even more fascinating. In recent years, these vibrant images have been confined to the tunnel under the 10600 South bridge, where artists who apply through a formal process can receive approval to share their talents along the river walk.
The Real UP House
13222 Herriman Rose Blvd., Herriman
Tucked into a quiet Herriman neighborhood, this charming home is an exact, Disney-authorized replica of Carl and Ellie's house from the Pixar film Up, built by Bangerter Homes with the Walt Disney Corporation's exclusive authorization. The exterior perfectly matches the iconic film, right down to the colors and architectural details, and the interior features the beloved chairs, mantle, and a mural above Paradise Falls. It functions as a private family residence, but the owners open it for a limited number of photo sessions each month, both indoors and out. Street photos are also welcome.
Ricochet Canyon at Gardner Village
1132 W 7800 South, West Jordan
Gardner Village is already one of West Jordan's most-visited destinations, built around a historic flour mill dating to 1877. On the southwest corner of the property, Ricochet Canyon is a Wild West-themed amusement park that includes everything that those young at heart could desire, including a gravity coaster; an interactive petting zoo with goats, lambs, ponies, emus, and more; a western-themed playground; a garden train layout; a gem mining sluice; and live seasonal entertainment. Admission is free; rides and the petting zoo require a stamp card.
Yates Petroglyphs
Located in the North Oquirrh Management Area
The Yates Petroglyphs are among the most remarkable ancient sites within reach of the Jordan River corridor. The rock art panels, which date back some 9,000 years, are accessible via the Yates Springs trailhead. The images carved into these rock faces predate recorded history by millennia, making this a site that both the casual visitor and the history enthusiast can enjoy. As with all petroglyph sites, visitors are asked not to touch the panels, as oils from human hands can permanently degrade these irreplaceable artifacts.
Bricks & Minifigs
1086 W South Jordan Pkwy., Suite 105, South Jordan
For LEGO enthusiasts of all ages, Bricks & Minifigs South Jordan is something of a pilgrimage destination. The store specializes exclusively in new, used, and retired LEGO products, with bins of bulk bricks to sort through, along with rare and collectible sets to peruse, a vast minifigure selection, and a buy-sell-trade model that makes it endlessly browsable. STEAM educational courses and LEGO-themed birthday parties in a dedicated party room are options as well.
Day Ranch Park
1156 Rochelle Day Drive, Bluffdale, Utah
This nearly 20-acre space combines a 9,000-square-foot skate area, a 10,000-square-foot bike pump track, skill lines, jump features, and a bike playground, making it the first site in Utah to combine all these elements in a single location. A nature-themed inclusive playground with a butterfly garden, eight pickleball courts, a tennis court, and multi-purpose sports fields round out a remarkably diverse set of amenities.
