finding opportunities for safe indoor activities

As the temperatures start to drop for us here in Kansas City, finding opportunities for safe indoor activities has become more of a priority for our family. When we were given the opportunity to have a night at home as a family with MTH Theater, we couldn't pass it up! Since MTH Theater is housed in Crown Center, we started our night with one of our family favorites, SPIN! Pizza. Not only are we big fans of the brick oven style of pizza but as a family with various taste preferences, we love their option for the Mini Mia's so that everyone can have exactly what they want.

We love going to visit Crown Center but if being honest, have really missed out on all that they have to offer. While my kids have had opportunities to visit the theaters in the past, we haven't made it out all together. Obviously, we are living in different times right now and since the theaters can't be open for their normal shows they have come up with a virtual viewing experience! MTH Theater ran a show called On The Ocean, Beyond the Sea which displayed songs from various musicals and shows that are loved by both the young and old.

We started our virtual experience in our jammies with popcorn in hand. (I am sure other moms out there will understand how exciting all of that can be to the little ones.) What we found is that as the show progressed along the kids couldn't help but get up and move. While we were able to make more of a family dance party and sing-along out of the virtual experience, I still appreciated the small breaks where we got to learn more about the shows, composers, and/or times that the songs came from.

The best part about this virtual musical experience with MTH Theater is that you can enjoy it at any age! Whether you want to get up and dance, simply enjoy the voices of the artists, or learn more about musical theater, you are guaranteed to have a wonderful experience. Consider checking out MTH Theater's upcoming Holiday show as well!

As I mentioned, we love going to Crown Center as a family. One of our favorite places to visit while we are there has always been SEA LIFE Kansas City Aquarium. Since the production was centered around songs about the ocean, sea, rivers, or other bodies of water, why not include this visit as part of our family fun weekend! Side note: the theater filmed at Sea Life so this made it even more exciting to visit and reminisce about where they stood and sang the songs. Sea Life and Crown Center have done a wonderful job of making the in-person visits as safe as possible. Masks are required, hand sanitizer is available and they have marked areas to help you properly social distance.

Sea Life is definitely a trip you must make with your family. My kids love seeing all of the different types of sea life that exist and my older ones have started to become very interested in the facts that they have posted around the facility. It is a great learning experience for school-age children and adults as well. For the younger ones, they will be amazed by all of the colors and varieties of sea life. A perfect family destination for all ages.

To end our family adventure with Crown Center, we had to get dessert. We headed to Chip's Chocolate Factory where the two oldest created their own chocolate bar with their favorite toppings. They thought this was the coolest thing ever and were so excited to see their creation and then, of course, taste it! The rest of us enjoyed various treats from their counter. The biggest problem of all, narrowing down the selection! We may have taken home more than we expected!

As you plan your next weekend with your family, we highly recommend you consider experiencing some of the wonderful things that Crown Center has to offer for you in the comfort of your home or even by making a safe trip out to them.
