Different styles in flooring edge treatments are expanding in popularity, luxury vinyl plank (LVP) is being applied to nearly every room in homes and comforting carpets are still being chosen for bedroom floors, state Big Dog Flooring co-owners and spouses Chip and Kristin Payton.
As a family-owned and operated business, the Big Dog Flooring Inc. crew handles residential and commercial projects, as well as new homes. Their products span engineered hardwood, carpet, full spread vinyl, waterproof flooring, patterned carpets, carpet tiles and laminates. Launched in 2006, Kristin and Chip Payton are co-owners. Joining them at the store are John and nephew Robbie.
Shapes of edges and ends of floor boards affect the appearance achieved once wooden planks are together, and Kristin says a sculpture edge adds to an overall, realistic hardwood look.
There are at least a handful of common edge styles, often referred to by different brand names from various floor manufacturers: painted beveled, micro, scraped and pillowed. Kristin says they’re placing a notable amount of pillowed edges, which means the bevel is pressed and more rounded.
"Extremely popular are our waterproof flooring options, which come in realistic wood or tile looks, including different shades and sizes. Because its finish is water-resistant, it's easy to care for and doesn't wear down as easily as some options," Kristin says. "And we have the largest selection of waterproof products on the Southside."
Choosing proper flooring is essential when creating stylish, functional spaces. Flooring impacts the overall look, feel and functionality of both home and commercial rooms. A well-planned floor serves as the foundation to spaces.
Chip assures that their products are handled by the company's own dependable, consistent installers. "We remain in frequent communication with customers to update them on their order, the delivery process and the installation time frame. They like that we have better quality products at affordable prices so we can work within various budgets," he says.
After clients visit the store to discuss and finalize product selections, Chip provides complimentary, in-house measurements.
Kristin says Big Dog Flooring experts assist with choosing the right materials for floors because floors are crucial for both aesthetic appeal and the durability of any space. Factors to consider in floor selections include lifestyles, traffic levels, sturdiness, maintenance requirements, slip resistance and allergies.
