Father's Day

10 ways to salute fathers of all ages.

Father’s Day 2025 is Sunday, June 15. So, this year what will you do for dear old Dad on his special day of celebration? Here are 10 ideas that range old school, simple, even a little trendy, but all perfect ways to salute fathers of all ages. First, a little history lesson: Did you know that America’s first Father’s Day was celebrated on June 19, 1910, in Spokane, Washington? However, it was not until 1972, 58 years after President Woodrow Wilson made Mother’s Day official, that the day honoring dads became a nationwide holiday in the U.S.

Get Dad’s blood flowing with a half marathon, 10K or a 5K run at the annual Stars and Stripes on the sensational Sam Houston Trail Park in nearby Irving.

Afterwards try Father’s Day breakfast at Lubbies Bagels in Lakewood. It's the closest thing to “back east bagels” anywhere in town, with special touches of sweets, sides, and super delicious schmears. The Lubkin sisters may be originally from Jersey, but their genuine smiles are totally Texas. In the Park Cities proper, head over to Bird Bakery or Sadelle’s, both conveniently located at Highland Park Village.

Tex-Mex fuels Father’s Day in Texas so why not enjoy some fresh air and refried beans with Mi Cocina at Klyde Warren Park across the street from the AT&T Performing Arts Center? Then, take off on a walk around the area – there is nothing like it anywhere in America. Or, while we’re thinking Tex-Mex, Escondido off Preston Road is another gem.

What Dad won’t go for BBQ? We recommend Pecan Lodge and Terry Black’s, both on Main Street in Deep Ellum. Or Lockhart Smokehouse in Bishop Arts. All are excellent choices that will have Dad eating out of the palm of your hand (but only after he finishes his brisket).

Maybe something more upscale is the ticket for Dads with more sophisticated tastes. We recommend Bob’s Steak & Chop House in the Omni Hotel, adjacent to the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center downtown. Or Chamberlain’s Steaks & Fish in North Dallas, or Al Biernat’s in the Oak Lawn area (there is a second location near the Galleria.

Maybe it’s time to put a little Pop Stroke in your life. Tap into the Tiger Woods designed course where you can eat, drink, and putt. Located at Grandscape in The Colony, golf-loving papa bears will find it all a big bunch of fun.

Looking for laughs? Kevin James is booked at the Majestic Theatre, need we say more? The actor’s role on the TV hit “King of Queens” helped make him a huge star along with choice roles in movie cut-ups like “Hitch,” “I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry,” and “Paul Blart: Mall Cop.”

If Dad prefers something a little less raucous than comedy, step inside one of the area’s best, most intimate listening rooms, Opening Bell Coffee, located in The Cedars. With a sound that draws influences from arena alt rock bands, ambient vibes and piano-driven virtuosity, Californian Adin Boyer blends classical, choir, pop and rock into one beautiful sound. Give him a listen?
