Aaron Zentner stands behind the bar adjacent to Fedeli’s restaurant in the Cyrus Hotel. He measures ingredients for his signature espresso martini into an ice-filled cocktail shaker. After a brisk shake, the dark libation is strained into a martini glass and topped with espresso sugar.
Zentner created the cocktail because he felt a good espresso martini was missing in Topeka.
“I hope this is it,” he says.
Fedeli’s Espresso Martini
1/2 ounce Belvedere vodka
3/4 ounce Woodford Reserve Double Oak Bourbon
1 ounce coffee liqueur
3/4 ounce PT’s Flying Monkey espresso
1/2 ounce salted maple syrup
Moburts espresso sugar, for garnish
Pour all the ingredients except the espresso sugar into an ice-filled cocktail shaker. Shake until mixed and chilled. Strain into a martini glass and sprinkle with espresso sugar.
