My favorite thing about the holiday season is the spirit of giving. People go out of their way to help each other and it is fulfilling to know you’ve helped an individual or a cause who needs it. I hope that we all strive to make giving happen year-round and not just during the holiday season.

Dinners I enjoy cooking family meals for everyone to enjoy.

Sweater Weather  It is so fun when colder weather finally gets to Houston. I enjoy it with hot toddies, reading, or watching a favorite movie by the warm fire.

Christmas Decor Making my home and neighborhood festive for the kids and kids at heart is one of the holiday traditions I enjoy the most.

Celebrations There are so many wonderful Houston celebrations to enjoy like the Nutcracker Market and fashion show.

Shopping I love online shopping for Christmas gifts and going into stores for holiday specials.

Family Throughout the year my entire family is on the go with their daily lives and the holiday season is a chance to stop time for a bit in order to enjoy fellowship, reminisce, and dive into family recipes.

Traditions Each Christmas before opening gifts, my grandmother chooses a lucky member of the family to read the Christmas story. This decades old tradition is one that I will pass along to my family in the future to keep the spirit alive.

Cold Weather Although we live in a southern state that rarely witnesses cold weather, every now and then we get a cold front allowing time to enjoy being by the fire and drinking hot cocoa.

Reflection The holiday season is a chance to reflect on the past year achievements to embody gratitude and humbleness for what I have in my life.

Travel When I get the chance to get away from the agency during the holiday season, I like to travel to winter’s hotspots to take in nature’s finest. Gives me an excuse to bust out the ski gear!

My favorite thing about the winter holidays isn't a thing, but the way of being that they evoke. Holiday time puts a special emphasis on being with the people that make our lives what they are. I have family and friends all over the world. Christmas is the only time I hear from some of them (or reach out). The winter holidays remind us that we really are all connected.

Christmas Music From Kenny Rogers, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Bing Crosby and Kasey Musgraves, I love it all.

Old Fashioned Fudge It's been a family Christmas tradition for six decades.

Glühwein  Hot mulled wine reminds me of snow-covered Christmases from my childhood in Germany.

Holiday Art Markets My local favorites are Craftidote & the First Saturday Art Market in December.

Christmas Cards I order custom cards from the local designers at Anvil Cards on Bissonet. These little tangible love notes from friends far and wide take pride of place in my library every year.
