A Safe Space

Four Local Nonprofits Ease the Transition Into Safe Homes for People and Pets

The most vulnerable among us are those who cannot help themselves—children and pets. Thankfully, our area has multiple organizations that step in to fill the gap and meet the needs in the community. Here are several nonprofits to consider when looking to lend support.

The Humane Society for Hamilton County

One of the only open admission shelters in the country, The Humane Society for Hamilton County does whatever it takes to give every animal the chance to live. The organization has worked tirelessly to achieve a 98 percent or higher live placement rate since 2014. At the Woofstock Survivor 5K & Dog Walk at Four Day Ray Brewing on Saturday, August 10, participants, including leashed and in-stroller dogs, can support life-saving medical care for animals in need. Sponsored by Canine Cloud Nine and Smitten Kitten Cat Cafe, registration features shirts, swag and finisher medals. For more, visit hamiltonhumane.com.

Isaiah 117

When children are removed from their homes, they are usually brought to a child welfare services office. They often have nothing with them and are scared and lonely. Isaiah 117 provides comforting homes for children in these transitional situations where they can receive the care they need while they await placement. Isaiah 117 House Golf Tournaments will be held Thursday, September 26, at 11:30 a.m. at the Golf Club of Indiana, and Monday, September 30, at 8:30 a.m. at Eagle Creek Golf Club (Pines) and in other locations throughout Indiana. Prevail, Inc. of Hamilton County

Since 1986, Prevail has been advocating for victims of crime and abuse on their path to healing, while engaging the community to support safe, healthy relationships. In the past year alone, Prevail has assisted more than 3,100 local survivors in crisis and support services. Prevail’s Annual Celebration of Hope Gala will be Saturday, August 17, at 6 p.m. at Embassy Suites by Hilton Noblesville Indianapolis Conference Center and will include dinner, drinks and a silent auction. Donations to Prevail aid in creating safe spaces for all. For more about the gala and to donate, visit prevailinc.org

Redemption Rescue

Redemption Rescue is an all-breed animal rescue comprising a network of fosters who work together to save abandoned, sick and injured dogs and cats. Volunteers see that the animals are treated, socialized and ready for “furever” homes, advocate for all breeds and help prevent unwanted litters. LiveLovePaint Studio will host Paint Your Pet Fundraisers on Wednesdays, August 14 and August 21, at 6:30 p.m. with pre-sketched canvases and professional instruction to allow you to unleash your creativity while supporting Redemption Rescue. For registration, go to livelovepaintstudio.com/events. For more information about Redemption Rescue, visit redemptionrescueinc.com.
