First Call: Trusted Care Since 1997

A Legacy of Care, Community, and Gratitude

For nearly three decades, First Call has been a trusted name in in-home care and sitter services for family members, friends, and loved ones. Additionally, First Call provides staffing services for hospitals, nursing homes, clinics and assisted living facilities.

Founded in 1997 by Joe Wolfe and Chris Sanders, the company is a Home Care Agency that is licensed, insured, and bonded, providing Home Health Aides and skilled care that emphasizes compassion, consistency, and community.

“Our culture was created 28 years ago,” shared Mark Penny, Account Manager for First Call. “And with that culture, our leadership set a vision rooted in consistency. A lot of our former clients mention the reliability of our staff and their level of experience. That’s what sets us apart.”

At its core, First Call is more than a staffing company—it’s a lifeline of peace of mind for families. From providing licensed and certified caregivers who support loved ones in memory care units to offering companionship to individuals whose families live out of town, the team prioritizes personal connection. As Susan McKemy, Vice President of Operations, explained, “There’s a peace of mind from the very first visit by our nurse and through the ongoing follow-up from our amazing coordinators. That’s what makes the difference.”

Stories of impact abound. One caregiver, arriving for a routine shift, discovered a client’s family member in distress. Acting quickly, she called 911, ultimately saving the client’s family member’s life. “When you knock it out of the park like that, it’s just a good feeling,” reflected Penny. “It lets us know we’re providing what people truly need.”

But it’s not just the clients who benefit—it’s the staff, too. Many employees have stayed with First Call for decades, with some caregivers surpassing 25 years of service. Others have grown from field staff into office leadership, carrying forward the culture of care they experienced firsthand. “I moved from the West Coast to work for this company three years ago, and it was the best career decision I’ve ever made,” said McKemy. “At the end of the day, we fulfill some part of someone’s life—and that’s what I’m grateful for.”

Gratitude is a word that comes up often among the team. “We are a family,” noted Jennifer Tyrl, Tulsa Branch Manager. “We say ‘welcome to the First Call family,’ whenever someone new joins. That bond helps us provide excellent care.”

Looking ahead, the staff is optimistic. Tara Ellis, Recruiting Specialist for First Call, summed it up best: “What we do can’t be replaced by artificial intelligence. Empathy, human touch, showing up—those things endure. And we’re grateful to keep serving Tulsa for the next 30 years and beyond.

Tara Ellis: “I’m grateful to be on the First Call Team because of the strong sense of purpose, the incredible support from teammates, and the opportunity to learn, grow, and make a meaningful impact together every day.”

Ella, RN: “Joe, Susan, and Jennifer—our leaders. When I first started in office, I mentioned I was a vegetarian. For the first time, out of 35 years working, those three remembered. I have always felt I work with people who care.”

Susan McKemy: “I’m thankful to be with a company that not only takes pride in delivering excellent client care, but also values and appreciates all who make that care possible. I am grateful for our amazing team, who genuinely care about what we do.”

Brenda Wilson: “I am grateful for each and every one of my coworkers, with whom I share more moments with than my own family. I cherish the time we spend together, our growth motivates me to do better each day.”

Jenny: “I’m thankful for the chance to connect compassionate caregivers with those in need. Each placement is a reminder that kindness and care can change lives – and I get to be a part of that every day.”

Teresa Bennett: “I am very grateful to be a part of a team that cares about the integrity and honesty that First Call offers, to exceed the expectations in providing the highest level of services to all.”

Jennifer Tyrl: “First Call is more than just a team. First Call is truly a family. We all work as a family unit. I am grateful that I get to come to work each day with new opportunities to embrace. It is never boring!”

Wanda McKinney: “I’m grateful for being a part of a family-oriented company. First Call gives back to employees and honors those that go above and beyond their duty. Much love is felt. The leadership is outstanding and wonderful. Clients are celebrated during birthdays and holidays. Great services are provided to clients and field staff.”

Mary Ann Gresham: “I am grateful to contribute to caring for those with physical and mental needs. I love meeting and working with new and existing employees and clients. I love my First Call family!”

Mark Penny: “I am thankful for the culture established by our leadership. Both our office staff and field staff have the drive to provide an experience that has kept our clients coming back for 28 years for exceptional service demands.”

Almetra Bailey: “The support and welcoming atmosphere at the Tulsa location have been incredible, and I can honestly say it feels like home. I chose First Call because of its strong reputation for valuing both employees and clients, and they deliver on that promise every day.”

Lisa Harger: “I am grateful for my remarkable coworkers and the pride we all share in finding the best caregivers for our clients. Here at First Call, we are family.”
