Every year, the United Way of Central Indiana bestows its Spirit United award on an organization that exemplifies a culture of giving back and making a positive impact on the community. In 2024, that award went to Goelzer Investment Management.

For the past 11 years, the local investment firm has celebrated 100 percent of its team members contributing to the United Way, which works to bring the hope of a brighter future to those living in poverty. In fact, the only organization in which employees have provided more support for the United Way of Central Indiana is the United Way itself. And that is just one of more than 40 nonprofits and organizations Goelzer supports.

In 2016, Goelzer committed to joining with Gleaners Food Bank to help feed hungry Hoosiers by launching the One Million Meals Campaign with a pledge to provide one million meals over the next 10 years. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020, and food insecurity increased in the area, Goelzer donated more than 500,000 meals ahead of schedule to reach its goal when the community needed it most.

“It is so important to us to give back to the community we serve,” CEO Greg Goelzer says. “We’re an investment firm, but the reason we exist is our core purpose, and that is to enrich the lives of our clients, colleagues and community.”

Greg Geolzer’s father, Don W. Goelzer, founded the company in Indianapolis in 1969 with the intention to surround himself with qualified investment professionals who shared the same core values.

Goelzer Investment Management encourages team members to be lifelong learners and invests in their development. Additionally, the firm empowers team members to give of their time to organizations about which they feel passionate.

“We give back through not only financial support, but volunteering and board involvement as well,” Goelzer says.

In 2024, team members volunteered on 25 boards of organizations that better the community, the state and the world.

Goelzer team members aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty, according to Dean Weseli, senior wealth advisor and director of G-Pro Sports.

“We see the kids and people we are helping firsthand,” Weseli says.

In fact, Goelzer’s 24-page annual community engagement report is filled with photo after photo of team members out and about the area, serving in various capacities.

This empowerment of colleagues is just one of the many reasons Goelzer Investment Management has ranked among the Best Places to Work in Indiana for many years. In addition, Goelzer has been ranked on national lists, such as Best Places to Work in Money Management. Both honors are based on independent review.

“We are very proud of the fact that this says we are a great place to work,” President Chris Cotterill says. “The heart of it is being good coworkers and good colleagues.”

Today, with more than 30 employees, Goelzer Investment Management is one of the largest registered investment advisory firms in Indiana. As business has grown and changed over the years, the firm’s Indiana-based clients have moved further north.

“With that population shift, it became clear that we needed to be closer to those clients to better meet their needs,” Cotterill says.

Carmel’s 1st on Main provides Goelzer the perfect spot to position the firm. The new multiuse building at the corner of Main and First Streets sits in the heart of the Carmel Arts & Design District.

In addition to its location in what is arguably the most dynamic area in central Indiana, the vibrant interior of the Goelzer office has been designed with flexible, collaborative meeting space.

“We’ve designed this space to bring people face to face to work together to make a difference,” Goelzer says. “We’re looking forward to sharing the space with our nonprofits around Carmel and Indianapolis.”

For Goelzer, this represents one more way the firm can give back.

“Engaging with the community is absolutely core to who we are,” Cotterill says. “We believe it makes us better at what we do.”
