Custom Designs For Comfortable Living Spaces

At B. F. Myers, The Design Doctor Is In And She Makes House Calls

Every season seems to bring about new fashion trends that define how we see ourselves and those around us. While styles seem to change most frequently in the clothing world, they also constantly evolve in other areas as well, particularly in furniture and home furnishings.

In generations past, living spaces were typically laid out by following a set of fairly rigid guidelines, which usually resulted in the creation of functional, yet uninteresting living spaces. Fortunately, those days are gone. Today, there is an entirely new approach to custom room design that offers far more flexibility than in prior years. One of the leaders in this new world is B. F. Myers.

For over 165 years, the Goodlettsville-based business has provided high quality furniture and furnishings to generations of customers throughout Middle Tennessee.  As the oldest business in Goodlettsville and the oldest furniture store in the Nashville, Myers has built its reputation upon outstanding customer service and by offering furniture and furnishing lines that are unique in the area.

“We have always been dedicated to helping our customers design and furnish comfortable living spaces that match their lifestyles,” says Julianne Goodwin, marketing coordinator for Myers. “A couple of years ago, we decided to expand our custom room layout services by creating a dedicated design center.”

The design center offers a full range of custom services provided by in-house designer Caitlin Newman. Located off of the showroom floor, the center provides Caitlin with a dedicated work area containing wood samples, fabric selections, layout tables and computers running custom design software.

“Our design approach provides a very visual and tactile customer experience,” says Caitlin. “We go through an extensive discovery process that begins with a ‘house call’ to make sure that we understand customers’ preferences and desires.”

Once the in-home visit has been completed, Caitlin returns to the design center to continue the material selection and space layout process. Depending upon the project complexity, she can produce detailed designs in time periods ranging from a few days to two weeks.

“I usually create two different designs for each customer that offer different materials, styles and price points,” says Caitlin. “I also generate detailed computer room layouts that provide customers with options for furniture placement.”

Since opening the design center, the B. F. Myers design team has helped hundreds of customers create their dream home spaces.

“Whether you are looking to redo a single room or outfit an entire house, we’ve got you covered,” says Julianne.
