For the Boys

Things to do With the Dudes

Guys, need something new to do when out with the crew?

Ladies, looking for the perfect Father’s Day gift for dad or the hubby this year?

There are myriad experiences across the Valley from which to choose if seeking either a guy’s day out or to gift an experience rather than another tie for the big day this year.

For example, why not set up a tour and tasting at a local brewery or distillery? Huss Brewing Co. (HussBrewing.com) features a build-your-own flight from anything on draft at all its local taprooms. SanTan Brewing Company (SanTanBrewing.com) has a similar option but also—thanks to its attached SanTan Spirits production facility—offers traditional and experimental spirit tastings as well as combination brewery-distillery tours.

If more of a whiskey aficionado, consider The Scotch Library at the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa (WestinKierland.com). Located just off the main lobby and with its own Scotch ambassadors as hosts, the old-world designed space features more than 300 Scotch brands, including 175 single malts, 30 blends, and several rare bottles imported directly from Scotland.

And of course, there is always golf.

If there are time constraints, The Short Course at Mountain Shadows (MountainShadows.com) is a great option. It was recently named the Best Par-3 Course in America by Golf.com, and its on-site watering hole—Rusty’s—is perfect for a postgame happy hour spot. Rusty’s has cigars, cocktails, food, and a popular tradition: The player with the lowest score on the famed Forrest Wager bonus hole has to pick up the first round of drinks.

Should golf be more a way of life than a hobby, consider going in with the guys on the Troon Golf (TroonGolf.com) annual card program, which provides exclusive offers and access to its more than 20 affiliated courses statewide, including Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club, Boulders Resort & Spa, Dove Valley Ranch Golf Club, The Club at Starr Pass, The Phoenician Golf Club, Sedona Golf Resort, The Westin Kierland Golf Club, and Troon North Golf Club.

Too hot for a traditional course? Consider one of the many local haunts that offers a golf simulator experience—not to mention air conditioning—like Trevor’s (Trevors.com) at the Scottsdale 101 shopping center. The 15,000-square-foot space features two private golf simulation bays that rent by the hour. Each has seating for eight guests and state-of-the-art TrackMan golf simulators offering realistic courses and challenges for all levels of play. There are also clubs for rent starting at just $10 and an on-site cigar store, as well as full-scale bar and restaurant.

Another “cool” way to spend the day with the guys is by getting on the water. Don’t have a boat? No problem! Boats, yachts, and even pirate ships are now available just a few clicks away thanks to Boatsetter (BoatSetter.com). The free app features more than 50,000 bookable on-water experiences and boat rentals across 700 locations worldwide by connecting qualified renters directly to boat owners and licensed captains. Within Arizona, there are nearly 200 boat rentals and personal watercrafts from which to choose this summer, both dry-docked and already near or in the water at Lake Pleasant, Roosevelt Lake, and Lake Havasu.

Scottsdale’s Penske Racing Museum (PenskeAutomall.com) features a collection of cars, racing memorabilia, and trophies. K O’Donnell’s Sports Bar and Grill (KODonnells.com) offers off-track betting, and Torch Cigar Bar (TorchCigarBar.com) is a sanctuary for stogie lovers, open to the public and members alike.

The old-world designed space features more than 300 Scotch brands, including 175 single malts, 30 blends, and several rare bottles imported directly from Scotland.
