Stephanie Korby was a neonatal nurse in Durango, when she learned that there were babies born that couldn't go home with their parents. Her and her husband Travis, had empty rooms in their home and knew they had room in their hearts to love more children. They started their fostering journey with Weld County in 2014.
How many children have you cared for over the years?
We have cared for about 20 children. We have cared for every age, brought many babies home from the hospital and even fostered teens. Each one with their own story. Some only staying a night or a few months and 4 for forever.
What is the greatest blessing of being a foster Mom?
We have been truly blessed! We went from 4 biological children to 8 total children. Not only did we grow our family with the children we have adopted but we also have grown our extended family with many of our foster children and their families. We have been blessed to teach many of our foster children how to downhill ski and also have taken them on family vacations. Most of our children had not even been outside of Colorado let alone weld county!! It has been wonderful showing them there is so much more out there.
How can our community support foster families?
There are many ways to help a foster family...make a meal, befriend a teenager, run an errand for a foster mom, take family pictures, hold a crying baby, thank a social worker, make cookies, babysit for a date night, become trauma informed, or pray.
