From Crafting Beers to Canning Kindness

Reformation Brewery helps bring water and other essential supplies to Hurricane Helene victims.

Many know Reformation Brewery as the local gathering spot nestled along the Chattahoochee River on Riverview Road in Smyrna. However, residents in Flat Rock, N.C., and South Georgia now recognize the brewery as a beacon of hope and a source of clean water in the wake of Hurricane Helene’s devastation.

Co-founder and CEO of Reformation Brewery, Spencer Nix, began canning water to help those impacted by the hurricane in Western Carolina. Two friends of Spencer’s, Kevin and Kim Griggs, reached out on behalf of their friend, who was struggling to find clean drinking water after the storm. In less than 12 hours, Reformation Brewery canned a pallet of water and had it on its way to her community.

As donations to Reformation Brewery increased, so did the support they could provide. Spencer expanded their outreach to Augusta and Valdosta in South Georgia, delivering water, food, and other essential supplies to communities in need.

Spencer is no stranger to disaster relief; he previously ran a nonprofit organization dedicated to managing disaster response logistics both locally and internationally. His commitment to helping others shines through Reformation Brewery’s community efforts.

“I truly feel a sacred trust with this community and Reformation,” Spencer wrote on an update page for the storm relief efforts. “I am privileged and committed to doing all we can to steward that trust as we export your love and kindness to others in the throes of real human despair.”

Reformation Brewery’s efforts reflect a powerful spirit of giving that goes beyond brewing. By transforming its production line to serve those in crisis, the brewery embodies the belief that community care is not just a local affair but a responsibility to reach beyond borders. As the holiday season draws near, Reformation Brewery’s story reminds us that acts of kindness—whether through water, food, or friendship—carry the power to change lives and inspire others to join in the work of giving.
