Amy Hayes never imagined a summer project with her daughter would lead her to build multiple seven-figure companies within a few years. That simple project was a mother-daughter painting venture sparked by her daughter’s search for a job before college. With experience painting her own homes and cabinets and a background in design from owning a staging company, Amy suggested they take on a few neighborhood projects. What began as a way to pass the summer quickly gained momentum. Neighbors took notice, and requests soon poured in. But what Amy didn't expect is that her love for entrepreneurship, born from watching her father build his own successful business from scratch, would help her lay the foundation for the business in this early stage.

After her daughter left for college, Amy continued painting. Recognizing a demand for cabinet painting, she knew she needed help. Turning to her community, she reached out to fellow moms seeking flexible, part-time work. Fourteen women responded within hours, and Bloom Painting Company was born. The team started in Amy’s garage (much to her husband’s dismay), braving rain, snow and scorching heat as they refined their craft. Together, they built a business and a support system grounded in shared purpose.

Flexibility for moms was at the heart of Bloom. Amy ensured her team could start at 9 a.m. and finish by 3 p.m., allowing them to prioritize their families without sacrificing meaningful work. For many women, Bloom became more than a paycheck—it was a path to rediscovering their new mom-friendly career surrounded by community, leadership opportunities and new trade skills.

As Bloom Painting Company grew, so did Amy’s ambitions. Clients began requesting more than cabinet painting—they wanted complete kitchen transformations. With her “everything is figureoutable” mindset, Amy embraced the challenge, collaborating with skilled tradespeople and expanding her construction knowledge. This led to the creation of Bloom Kitchens, a design-build firm specializing in beautiful, functional kitchen spaces.

The path was not without its hurdles. Managing both the cabinet painting and remodeling businesses pushed Amy to her limits, as she was growing the remodeling company with only a carpenter and  project manager. At a pivotal decision point, she prayed for guidance and felt a clear directive: move forward full force with Bloom Kitchens, with a strong team, an expanded business structure and a foundation of excellence.

Today, Bloom Kitchens operates a showroom and design center in Louisville. Amy has assembled an extraordinary team of women, including designers, project managers, a CFO and administrative staff. Each woman brings unique talents, and Amy’s dedication to empowering her team is evident. She firmly believes that when people work within their strengths, they find fulfillment and drive exceptional results.

Quality, customization and communication are pillars that Bloom is built on. From the first consultation to the final walkthrough, clients experience a seamless, transparent process. Each project has a dedicated point of contact, ensuring homeowners feel supported and informed every step of the way. Follow-ups are frequent, and the team’s attention to both style and functionality ensures every kitchen reflects the client’s vision.

Amy and her team foster genuine client connections, often forming lasting friendships. One example is the connection with clients Dave and Teresa that began during a large project in Spruce Meadows. On a challenging day, Amy shared difficult news about her daughter’s pregnancy. The couple, also grandparents, offered heartfelt support. Their bond grew throughout the high-risk pregnancy and birth, forming a lasting friendship. Amy and her husband recently dined with Dave and Teresa, and Erin, Bloom's Lead Project Manager, also remains close with them. This story reflects the deep connections Bloom fosters with its clients.

Amy’s faith remains a guiding force. She views her work as a reflection of God’s story of renewal—transforming the old into something beautiful and new. Every project presents an opportunity to create a sanctuary where families can gather, celebrate and find comfort.

Nurturing a supportive community is one of the most cherished values at Bloom. Amy is intentional about creating a workplace where women feel a sense of belonging. Bloom is a place of empowerment and mutual respect. “When we support and encourage each other in a spirit of female sisterhood, we thrive both at work and at home. We are empowered and secure in our belonging and purpose, and that spills over into everything we do. This is the community of Bloom,” says Amy.

The community continues to grow. This year, they opened Bloom Gallery, a beautiful new venue space for the community to rent out, and Bloom Décor, their own product line.

Bloom’s impact is undeniable. Clients enjoy revitalized kitchens, families gather in beautiful spaces and employees find fulfilling work that fits their lives. For Amy, the greatest reward is knowing she’s built businesses that uplift others.

Bloom continues to thrive, driven by Amy’s unwavering dedication to quality, her deep belief in community, and her commitment to empowering women—values that have shaped the company into a symbol of renewal and resilience. Amy says, “It has been an incredible journey—the hardest thing I have ever done, but also what has grown me the most and deepened my faith in powerful ways. I have an amazing team of women, and together, we’ve built Bloom into what it is today. We can’t wait to see what’s next!”
