From the Ground Up

JD Shelburne

Nashville-based country music artist J.D. Shelburne was raised on a tobacco farm in Taylorsville, Kentucky, just outside of Louisville. When J.D. was 19, he found a guitar at his grandmother's house after her death. He took it back to college with him, quickly learned how to play it, and began writing and singing songs on his own. By his sophomore year of college, he had found a few gigs at some local bars in Louisville & Lexington and some Kentucky area venues, played some corporate gigs and started to build fans the old-fashioned way. He thought 'I should give Nashville a shot,' and adds, "I was making a great living and loving every minute of it."

Fast forward to today, J.D.’s second album Straight from Kentucky, is building upon the energy of his first album, Two Lane Town and his blossoming career as a modern country singer, songwriter and performer. He graces the cover of Kentucky's Official Visitor's Guide 2020 and last May was named Texas Roadhouse Artist of the Month. "All this stuff is momentum for me for the new album," Shelburne says. Locally, fans may have seen Shelburne play at Puckett's in Franklin and can look forward to the album coming out next month.
