Recently, SkinMD celebrated an important milestone. West Nashville native Dr. Ellen Jacobson celebrated 30 years of practicing dermatology in Nashville and with SkinMD.
SkinMD is a full-service dermatology practice in Belle Meade at 4515 Harding Pike, Suite 310. SkinMD is known for its team's comprehensive approach. Their staff treats the spectrum of skincare, unwanted fat, leg veins, redness or dark spots, skin cancer, teen acne and the signs of aging.
"We provide expert dermatology care and cosmetic treatments in the Nashville community. For medical appointments, we're in network with most major insurance companies," confirms Dr. Jacobson.
She began her journey into medicine by volunteering during three summers in rural Latin America with the Amigos de las Americas program, providing basic dental care and vaccinations against childhood diseases. She graduated cum laude from the University of the South with a bachelor's degree comprising dual majors in Spanish and biology.
In 1982, Dr. Jacobson enrolled in the University of Tennessee Center for Health Science in Memphis where she earned a doctorate of medicine degree in 1986. While in medical school, she diagnosed a family member with a malignant melanoma, which generated her specific interest in dermatology. After two years at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, she entered the Dermatology Residency Program at the University of Tennessee and became certified by the American Board of Dermatology in 1991.
She has extensive experience with skin cancer and excision.
"The past 30 years of groundbreaking therapies and evolutionary technologies have driven tremendous leaps in dermatology care and treatment that I’d only dreamed about in medical school. But as I reflect on those years, what stands out to me are the rewards I’ve experienced as a physician through meaningful, caregiving relationships and the ever-growing community of patients for whom I’ve cared. I'm fortunate to have achieved this level of joy in my practice and achievements as a physician as I move forward in my career,” she says.
Dr. Jacobson served on the Mayor’s Green Ribbon Committee on Environmental Sustainability. She's a member of the American Academy of Dermatology-Tennessee, Nashville Dermatology Societies and Music City Bulldog Club.
Welcoming A New Dermatologist, Too
Board-certified dermatologist Judy Hu, M.D., recently joined the SkinMD staff. She is a board-certified dermatologist with more than 15 years of experience. She provides medical dermatology, skin cancer care and surgical procedures, as well as cosmetic services.
She previously practiced at Lebanon Cumberland Skin Surgery and Dermatology.
Dr. Hu graduated with honors from Rollins College with a bachelor’s degree in biology. She earned her medical degree from East Tennessee State University, and completed her residency at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia. She then completed a year of clinical research at Wake Forest University, concentrating on psoriasis and quality of life issues. She became an assistant professor at East Tennessee State University before starting private practice.
"Healthy, beautiful skin is possible at every stage of life. My goal when working with patients is to ensure first, that their skin is healthy. I enjoy helping patients develop a treatment plan that helps them look their best," says Dr. Hu.
