GeeGee's Christmas Pledge

Crafting to help the Smyrna Library completes GeeGee's holiday season.

When GeeGee Walters retired after a 25 year career, most recently as a Senior IT Specialist with GE Capital, she felt the pull to use her skills for good. “I wanted to give back to my community, offer my skills in an area that needed me and maybe meet new people,” she says.  GeeGee and Jerry Walters have lived in Smyrna since 1992. “I started with the Friends of Smyrna Library by doing membership and other opportunities came up that gave me the chance to get even more involved.”

GeeGee is an artist, and crafts lovely holiday home decor, raising money for Friends of Smyrna Library. "When it came time for the fundraising, I showed them my craft skills and that’s how it all began - it has been so much fun and rewarding ever since.”  She makes centerpieces, arrangments for the mantle, wreaths and swags for the door.  She uses ornaments, bright ribbons, greens, silk flowers, tiny embellishments and lots of love to make her decorative holiday statements. They are each one of a kind! GeeGee will be taking special orders this year. Email her at marleymay53@gmail.com and support the Smyrna Library.

On December 1, join GeeGee and the entire board for The Big Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, with Santa and lots of holiday festivities to enjoy. Catch the spirit of the season and delight in choral performances by local schools, community and church groups. Don't miss the annual parade with Santa and the very special way he lights the giant Christmas Tree in Smyrna's downtown, kicking off the holiday season of lights in downtown Smyrna on the Village Green.

Also, each Thursday, tthe library hosts a Preschool Virtual Storytime (3-5 year olds) with an age-appropriate, thematic story and rhyme for children beginning to develop their literacy skills. The storytime video link will be available here on the morning of the event, or on the library's Facebook for 24 hours. December 3- Hibernation Station, December 10- Penguins Waddle, December 17- Winter Holidays.
