Gems of Love

Attracting Hearts, Minds, and Positive Relationships with Rose Quartz

Rose quartz, often refered to as the crystal of love, is one of the most recognized and cherished gems in the mineral world. Often referred to as the "Love Stone" or the "Heart Stone," this delicate, pink-hued crystal has been treasured for centuries. Discover why this gem is beloved not just for its aesthetic appeal, but also its cultural significance.

Rose quartz derives its mesmerizing pink color from trace amounts of titanium, iron, or manganese within its structure. Believed to have originated from various corners of the Earth, including Brazil, Madagascar, and South Dakota, rose quartz has been used in jewelry and decorative pieces throughout history. Beyond its geological origin, rose quartz carries significant cultural symbolism.

Renowned for its association with love, compassion, and healing, the stone has been a symbol of affection and warmth across different cultures. Ancient Egyptians believed rose quartz had anti-aging properties, while the Greeks associated it with the goddess of love, Aphrodite.

We met with Carolyn Fike, founder and creative force of her company, Soul Sisters 108. Her creative passion has taken her to incorporate the special nature and beauty of crystals. Her crystal and gemstone jewelry can be found in upscale boutiques and spas around the country. She is a sought-after retreat leader working from Alaska to Costa Rica and many points in between.

Carolyn told us about how she incorporates rose quartz into meditation and mindfulness practices. “Holding or placing the crystal during meditation serves as a focal point for cultivating feelings of love and compassion. Placing crystals on your heart center, and solar plexus, and holding one on each hand will help expand the mindfulness experience. Using crystals in combination with sound baths helps people move deeper into a state of relaxation. In sound baths, frosted crystal bowls are played and the vibrations and sound waves that are created are amazing. It’s such a simple way for the brain to really shift into an alpha state, promoting relaxation and a sense of calm.

In Feng Shui, the Chinese practice of harmonizing one's environment, Rose quartz is often used to bring positive energy, balance, and harmony to living spaces. Placing Rose quartz in specific areas of the home is believed to enhance the flow of loving energy.

Carolyn offers private, in-home workshops that could be a great Valentine’s Day gift idea: a Sound Bath for you and your significant other at your home!

Editor's Note: It's important to note that these beliefs are rooted in spirituality and metaphysics, and there is no scientific evidence to support the idea that crystals emit measurable energy or have specific healing properties.
