Michelin Starred expertise mixed with an award-winning wine program comes to The Woodlands. Introducing Giorgio Ferrero, Wine Director and General Manager at Sorriso Modern Italian Kitchen.
Ferrero has been part of Sorriso since its debut in 2019 and was recently awarded the Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence 2021. What makes this even more impressive is that Sorriso is the only restaurant in The Woodlands to receive this award this year,
“there are only two locations in Houston with this level of recognition,” says Ferrero.
It is clear to see the level of expertise, and knowledge Ferrero brings to the table, combined with his impressive background.
Ferrero was born and raised in Turin, Northern Italy. He entered the wine world on a whim when his best friend offered to pay for his sommelier course. The rest is history. Two acclaimed restaurants later, studying under renowned wine producers across Europe, Ferrero moved to the U.S where tremendous opportunity awaited,
“one of my greatest accomplishments was working at Valentino’s,” says Ferrero passionately.
He worked under the James Beard Award-Winning Chef Luciano Pellegrini and master restauranter Piero Slevaggio and went on to receive the Wine Spectator Grand Award from 2008-2011.
Ferrero’s passion lies heavily in sharing his knowledge with those wanting to learn,
“I fell in love with the wine world, I’m very open to private classes, private tastings because when you open a bottle of wine, you open a piece of history,” he says.
At Sorriso, Ferrero reunites with Executive Chef Enzo Fargione after twenty years! As you enter the beautiful establishment, you’ll find Sorriso’s 2,500-bottle wine inventory - a true showcase of Ferrero’s award-winning expertise on display.
“Wine is love, passion, and the moment. It depends on how you feel!” Ferrero describes.
