Imagine waking up in the middle of the night, nestled into a king bed inside a luxury glamping tent, staring up at what feels like an endless canopy of stars framed by the skylight above.

In the morning, you shower in your en-suite bathroom before heading off to a chef-crafted breakfast served in a glass-walled restaurant, where you can look out at a nature resort that’s surrounded pristine National Forest lands.

This is Backland Luxury Nature Resort, a secluded escape where stargazing, wilderness adventures and elevated hospitality come together in Northern Arizona.

The Tents

This eco-luxury resort is surrounded on all sides by pristine National Forest lands and located just 20 minutes outside of Williams. It sits on 160 acres at an elevation of 7,000 feet and has 10 luxury glamping tents—which are designed with expansive windows, patios, full en-suite bathrooms with a shower, and so much more. Various accommodations feature a soaring 16-foot skylight, and new for the 2026 season, select Nature Suites now include a private outdoor hot tub. Thoughtfully integrated into the Nature Suite design, the hot tub complements the skylight positioned above the king bed, allowing you to enjoy unobstructed views from both the comfort of your room and your private deck.

Every tent features a king bed, while one accommodation option also includes a cozy bunk-bed fort designed with families in mind.

Things to Do

While you may be tempted just to hang out in your tent unwinding and soaking in the stunning views, if you’re looking for more activity, Backland offers plenty of options.

Even at full build-out, 95% of the property will remain open space, giving you plenty of room to explore trails, spot local birdlife, and immerse yourself in the surrounding forest.

There’s also a pond with a beach, with kayaks and fishing poles available for use. And, a nine-hole frisbee golf course winds through the forest and the meadow, offering a playful way to explore the grounds. Evenings can be spent around a fire pit making s’mores.

As the skies go dark, you can head to the observatory, a recent expansion of the resort’s existing nighttime stargazing programming that features heated seating and staff-led observations. Since Backland is located deep in the forest, it is far removed from the light pollution of the city, and the starry views are stunning. Make sure to use the telescope to catch a view of the craters on the moon or even Saturn’s rings.

If you prefer to go off property, there’s also plenty to explore nearby. The Sycamore Falls trailhead is just five minutes away, Bearizona is 20 minutes away, Canyon Coaster Adventure Park (and its unique mountain coaster) is also only 20 minutes away, and if the Grand Canyon is on your list, Backland has a partnership with Grand Canyon Adventures that offers private guided tours that depart directly from the property.

Dining

A continental breakfast is included with every stay (as are the nightly s’mores), while lunch, dinner, grab-and-go snacks, and various drinks are available for an extra cost. In keeping with the resort's nature-focused philosophy, chef-crafted dishes highlight seasonal and locally sourced ingredients whenever possible.

In addition to the glass-walled restaurant and to-go dining options, there are new, clear private dining pods on the premises. These intimate dining spaces allow you to enjoy a secluded meal beneath Arizona's famed dark skies.

At Backland, you can meld nature and luxury for the ultimate in relaxation and peacefulness. Take in the breathtaking natural wonders or simply linger in the stillness of the wild.
