Greenwich Cocktail Week

Perhaps you’ve noticed: almost every day and week is devoted to some sort of awareness. There are days for bile ducts, accordions, internal mouth skin, returning shopping carts to the supermarkets and, my favorite, Tenderness Toward Existence - sort of a catchall for everything we’ve neglected to indulge, like Helio monsters and pocket lint.

In fact, there’s only one thing that’s never received the awareness time it deserves. Until now. Thank you, Greenwich Cocktail Week! Mark it on your calendar: May 16-19.

The brainchild of Greenwich natives Lindsay Potter, beverage marketer, and Jed Simon, owner and founder of Old Greenwich Social Club, GCW aims to raise awareness and excitement for the many restaurants - and libations - in Greenwich.

The week kicks off with a party, of course. 100% of the party ticket profits and a portion of the cocktail proceeds sold throughout the week goes to charity. Last year GCW raised $12,00 for the Emily Catherine Fedorko Foundation, which supports the “education, advocacy and awareness of boating and water sports safety for adults and children, throughout Connecticut and nationwide.” This year they hope to raise even more for Pathways, dedicated to helping adults with severe mental illness live as “normal” a life as possible.

But don’t expect the $400-600 ticket tag of most Greenwich galas. Lindsey and Jed’s goal is to spread the cheer and include as make it accessible to as many party people as possible. The week will also be peppered with other parties at participating restaurants which feature discounted specialty drinks, like watermelon martinis and wild berry mojitos.

It’s not just for liquor enthusiasts. Last year, Lindsey and Jed held a pizza fest, to introduce people to “great local pizzerias that people may not know about.” The ticket price includes unlimited beer, wine, and slices. And kid drinks.

If you’re incapacitated or out of town that week, you can still look forward to other events throughout year. Their goal is one event per month - check out Instagram for the latest buzz.
