When it comes to home design, don’t overlook what’s right under your feet. At K&M Floors, Smyrna-Vinings’ go-to flooring specialists, craftsmanship meets creativity with a warm, personal touch—and the results are stunning from the ground up.
Locally owned and family-operated, K&M Floors offers full-service flooring design and installation for clients who value quality, character, and collaboration. Whether you’re renovating a powder room or laying the foundation for a new build, their mission is simple: make every space feel like home.
But behind the seamless service and showroom-worthy results is a family story built on resilience, legacy, and deep love for the work they do.
Rooted in Resilience
Founded by husband-and-wife team Jason and Melissa Drum, K&M Floors was born out of necessity—and heart. In 2008, Jason lost his job as a flooring and tile craftsman when his company folded during the economic crash. Rather than start over under someone else’s roof, the Drums took a leap of faith and launched their own business.
“We really went out on a limb,” says Melissa. “Right in the middle of the economy tanking, we opened K&M Floors. We had no choice, but we had a vision.”
Named after their children, Kaiden and Makayla, the company remains a true family affair. Jason leads the craft, Melissa assists with marketing & social media, and the kids—now 18 and 21—are already dreaming of joining the team.
Today, K&M serves not only local families but also major commercial clients like Taco Bell, Dutch Brothers Coffee, and Dunkin Donuts. Still, residential remodels account for more than half of their work, with glowing referrals and top-rated reviews fueling steady growth.
What’s Trending Underfoot
So what’s hot in flooring right now? According to K&M, wide plank hardwood in matte or low-sheen finishes with warm, earthy tones is leading the charge.
“We’re seeing a move away from high-gloss or overly cool tones,” Jason says. “It’s all about cozy, grounded finishes that work with real life.”
For homes with kids, pets, or heavy foot traffic, luxury vinyl plank (LVP) continues to rise in popularity.
“You get the texture and charm of wood with the water resistance and durability families need,” Melissa adds. “It’s the best of both worlds.”
Bold Bathrooms and Tile with Personality
Bathrooms are also stepping into the spotlight. K&M is excited to see statement tile making a strong comeback, especially bold geometric patterns and vintage-inspired designs.
“These small spaces are great for adding personality and charm,” Jason says. “We love when clients get creative in their bathrooms.”
One standout project included a Cobb County new build with nine custom bathrooms—each featuring unique tile selections, but all tied together with wide plank hardwood throughout the home.
Helping Clients Find Their Style
At K&M Floors, flooring isn’t just a backdrop—it’s a key part of your aesthetic. That’s why every project begins with a collaborative consultation.
“We start by understanding a client’s lifestyle, design preferences, and the overall aesthetic they’re going for,” Melissa explains.
From there, the team walks clients through a curated selection of materials, colors, and textures to match both their style and daily needs. The result is a space that doesn’t just look good—it feels authentic and livable.
Avoiding Common Pitfalls
One of the most common mistakes homeowners make? Choosing flooring based on looks alone.
“Durable options like LVP, tile, or harder woods like white oak are better suited for busy households,” Jason explains. “We help clients match the right product to their lifestyle—it saves frustration and money in the long run.”
K&M’s team takes into account traffic flow, moisture, pets, and upkeep to ensure clients make decisions they’ll feel good about for years.
What Sets K&M Apart
K&M Floors brings a thoughtful, hands-on approach to every project. Many team members have been with the company from the start and take pride in delivering work that exceeds expectations.
“We treat every home like it’s our own,” says Jason. “From the big picture down to the smallest details.”
Their craftsmanship and service have earned the trust of high-profile clients and loyal homeowners alike. Their work has been featured in Little Red Wagon Magazine, and they continue to earn five-star ratings across review platforms.
The company is also forward-thinking in its sustainability efforts, recycling carpet and padding and offering eco-friendly flooring to reduce waste.
A Legacy in the Making
For Jason and Melissa, K&M Floors is more than a business—it’s a legacy they’re building for their children and community.
“We’re not going anywhere,” Jason says. “When your vision is tied to your family and your future, your roots grow deep.”
