Hair Trends Forecast: What's In for 2024

A New Year Brings New Hair Trends To Stay On Top Of

When Gaven Smith first opened Studio Gaven Hair Colour, it was with a mindset of career, coaching, and training. So it’s no surprise that the nearly 70 team members at the salon share that same growth and advancement mentality. Continually exploring and sharing new looks, techniques, and hair care solutions, here’s a sampling of trends the Studio Gaven team of colorists and stylists expect to see in 2024.

Trends overall are leaning toward a more relaxed, lived-in style. For women, crops, bobs, and pixies will still be in, but with more effortless and relaxed styling. Last year saw the shag make a comeback and the return of curtain bangs and we expect evolving versions of those same styles this year. There is also an appreciation for slightly tousled waves that take advantage of natural textures. And, a sense of freshness and originality is still an overall wish for many.

For men, the styling game will be similar and include shorter hair with fades, taper, quiffs, and curls– all accentuating individual style. For hair care, the guys are reaching for professional hair pomades and creams to help define, texturize and finish off the look. Tony Souki, Stylist

Hair color- Softly blended face-framing highlights are still highly desired and whether brunette or already blonde, the “pop” around the face is still in along with warm tones. Ashy blondes are even starting to opt for a more natural golden tone. In keeping with that warm theme, we are seeing more brave souls branch out and request red and we are here for it! The right red hair color showcases natural skin tones beautifully. And for those longtime blondes feeling washed out, the timeless deep chocolate brown is also making a comeback. To maintain warm, shiny, healthy hair look for sulfate-free products that help strengthen hair while preserving intended hair color. Casey Gilley, Stylist, Educator and Salon Shareholder

Textured Hair- It’s essential to maintain the health of textured hair, especially if it is dry or experiencing breakage. Look for professional products such as Shu Uemura’s izumi rice water tonic to help strengthen fragile hair. And those beautiful curls can also present their own set of styling challenges. Understanding and experiencing different curl types and shrinkage is important when working with textured hair while washing and blow-drying to see the hair wet, how it curls, and how much it shrinks is important to achieve the desired look. Bri Dodson, Salon Stylist Alternative

Hair Solutions- Handtied and weft extension methods will continue to dominate as well as more customization and incorporation of multiple methods and alternative hair pieces for top coverage. The key to healthy hair extensions is in the method and the maintenance and are essential for a healthy scalp and hair growth. Treating extensions daily with a moisture product and avoiding products that contain protein, sulfates and parabens will help ensure longevity of extensions. Lauren Keck, Stylist, Educator and Salon Shareholder.

One overall trend that we can all agree on is the continuation of improving hair health in 2024. Dana Funk, Salon Director notes that guests continue to seek out a personalized hair care regimen for healthier, stronger, high-shine hair, whatever the color or style – all part of the Studio Gaven experience.
