Pauline Heft, owner and designer of The Posy Pantry, believes in the slow-growing power of flowers, art and craftsmanship in everyday life. Her “whimsical with a vintage flair” style shines through her intentional business. From floral arrangements to curated collections of antiques and custom artwork, Heft lives out her mission to gather and design the natural beauties of the earth for all to enjoy in their homes, workplaces or special occasions.
The Posy Pantry was founded in 2020 after a friend told Heft the story of starting her sewing business from her kitchen table. It was the encouragement Heft needed to start where she was. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she began delivering bouquets to people working from home to offer joy and light in a time of isolation.
Heft says, “Few things in life provide the pure, innocent joy that can be experienced through a bunch of flowers that grew up from the smallest seed, braved storms and pestering bugs, yet still stand beautiful. They are an inspiration for life and its struggles.”
Heft’s love of artistry was apparent long before the founding of The Posy Pantry in 2020. Formative experiences have clarified her sense of style over time.
“I always felt very scattered in my creative aspirations until I became a mother. It grounded me in a way that showed me what I truly loved doing and gave me the confidence to run with what I love making and not caring whether it was trending or mainstream. From youth, I have loved flowers and creating hand-drawn art pieces. In college, I worked at an antique mall, which fostered my love for old pieces of quality and charm. When I married my beloved husband, he showed me a love and comfort unmatched, and that loving environment truly nurtured the creative side in me to bloom to its fullest.”
In 2021, Heft moved to a 150-year-old farmhouse nestled on 8.5 acres in Bethpage, Tennessee. That is when The Posy Pantry evolved into what it is today.
At its core, The Posy Pantry is a testament to Heft’s faith.
She says, “God's beautiful design in creation is what motivates me in life and in creating. He is the ultimate artist who found purpose in all things that start small, grow up into lovely works of art and then eventually fade away. The purpose and beauty I find in the cycle in a flower's life is very encouraging in my own, knowing that who I am and what I make matter in the eyes of my Creator.”
That is why Heft attests to the importance of incorporating intentional art into homes or events. It reminds people of the most important lessons — that good things often start small and form slowly.
She says, “In an age of AI, it is my heart's desire to create all things handmade to be cherished by individuals in their special corner of the world.”
The Posy Pantry provides flower bars for events and small-group workshops. Locals can find Heft’s fresh bouquets at Ditch Lily in Westmoreland. She creates custom artwork available for local pickup or shipping, and starting in 2027, Heft will only participate in two markets per year.
