Do you remember the vintage barbershops your fathers frequented when they needed a good shave and cut? Boerne boasts of just such a place where seven barbers offer great cuts. Nathan Heape, a former high school Math teacher learned the trade to keep up with his wife, a former chef and a trained barber. Katie is now stationed with the Border Mission in the National Guards until November. The couple has three daughters, in college and high school.

Hauptstrasse Barbershop opened in 2016 when the Heapes moved to Boerne. The shop was located in a small space on North Main Street next door to Bumdoodler’s. They renovated the former thrift shop beside Blacksmith Grill and moved into the new location in July of 2021.

In a modern wood and industrial design, the large black chairs are always filled with customers. With the open floor plan, the men enjoy conversations in this great meeting place to talk world events, how Boerne is changing, and boasting about their grandchildren.

The barbershop offers products for sale, like El Squento pomades and beard oils. T-shirts and hats are sold as well, along with other hair and beard products.

The Hauptstrasse Cigar Bar, owned with business partner Clay Smoot, is in the back with its own entrance door. The dimly lit room is just perfect to select cigars, sit, relax and enjoy a drink. It is a great hangout place that gets busy after-hours.
