Lots of people use the internet to research help and solutions for many common conditions like headaches, sleep issues, anxiety and fatigue. But even those without a medical degree know that treating those symptoms is not the same as treating what causes them. Enter Biologix. Dr. David Jernigan opened the center with the express belief that healing happens when you get to the root cause of what ails you.
What inspired you to open Biologix here in Franklin?
I initially moved to the Franklin area years ago, to be closer to my elderly parents, while continuing to work on health-related research. This research needed more of my attention, so I set up an IRB research program and decided to build a flagship location in the business-friendly Franklin area. I found and fell in love with a location for the Biologix Center, nestled up against a beautifully wooded mountain just off the highway near the intersection of Moore’s Lane and Franklin Road.
You have personally been through so much trauma in your life - both physically and emotionally. How did you overcome it all?
I have indeed been through much of the hardship that a person can experience in life. In the 25 years that I have pursued finding significance in my life through helping others heal, my patients have often demonstrated such amazing love and grace, though they were profoundly sick and, at times, dying. My faith and my drive to continually improve myself, not to mention my desire to remain unchanged in my continual love and trust in God, in spite of my circumstances, has made all the difference.
Tell us about a patient success story that you're proud of.
I would say that my crowning achievement as a doctor was with a young man who came in a wheelchair with 54 major symptoms. He had been on top of the world, playing hockey and living a normal life, until contracting Lyme disease, after which his entire life came to a screeching halt. In spite of being treated by many doctors, he soon became unable to walk or to speak, living in a nightmare of severe, unrelenting pain all over his body. He could not express emotion, since to smile, laugh, or cry caused excruciating agony inside his head. He could not eat solid food or feed himself, having to be fed a nutrient-rich soup, prepared daily by his mother, to be slowly sipped through small paper cups. It is difficult to grasp how one person could possibly have so many horrible symptoms, all day, every day, for years. His mother brought him to me for treatment, coming all the way from Canada, in desperation, willing to try anything to help her son get well. Having specialized in treatment-resistant, chronic illness, for my entire career, I was forced to innovate new ways to test and treat the body, since most of my patients had not only exhausted all that conventional medicine had to offer, but also all they could find in the way of natural medicine. Within a week, this brave young man was able to speak for the first time in two and a half years. And within two weeks he was able to walk again. His initial treatment program had been planned for two weeks, however with all of the symptoms rapidly falling away, he was not about to leave and ultimately stayed for six weeks, turning 19 years of age during his stay. He returned for follow up visits to continue his healing process but has now for many years enjoyed the ability to enjoy college life, even joining a hockey team, and backpacking across Europe.
Tell us about some of the innovations you've developed over the years, including your latest innovation, Induced Native Phage Therapy (INPT).
Many of my innovations are advancements upon existing technologies. Probably the most amazing is what I have named, Biospectroscopic Emission Sequence Testing (BEST). BEST is similar to a smart watch, in that it can access the “computer software” of the body, only it does not require computer technology and can therefore achieve much more precise testing to adjunctively determine what is going awry in the patient’s body. BEST cannot be used as a primary diagnostic. It simply aids the doctor in the information gathering process of all the different tests, to do much more than just arrive a diagnostic label, but to provide information about the many things contributing to their illness.
Induced Native Phage Therapy (INPT) is the most recent and exciting innovation. As many people understand that boosting the immune system can be a good thing, especially when they have caught an infection, what most people don’t know is that there is another system that has been assisting in the killing of infections inside your body…phages. Phages are viruses that only infect a specific host microbe, most often causing their host to manufacture more of the phages. These phages do not infect human cells. A bacteriophage is a phage that infects bacteria. A mycophage only infects mold and fungi. A virophage only infects another virus. None of this knowledge is new in the scientific world. However, unknown until now is the fact that when you get an infection, possibly Lyme disease from a tick or insect bite, that the bacteria, in this case, Borrelia spirochete bacteria, enter the body already infected themselves with Borrelia-phages!
Are there any conditions you don't treat at the center?
We are not set up to address the extreme psychosis cases, such as suicidal situations. We do not treat advanced cancer. We actually don’t treat disease by any given name, since our goal is to simply identify everything that has gone wrong in the body and facilitate the body’s ability to heal itself. From there, disease by any name falls away. You might say, we are specialists in using the highest science available to restore what is most optimum in the structure and function of the human body.
