Healthy Holidays Ahead

Five tips to help you stay healthy and happy during the holidays

Holidays are a time for celebrating, and one can often find themselves surrounded by delicious treats, making it hard to keep on the healthy track.

John Winters, owner & Director of Training at Lifestyle Performance Training Health Club, offers some quick and useful tips to keep fit and healthy this holiday season.

1.     Exercise consistently

Don’t let go of your exercise regimen just because it is the holidays. There is enough time to enjoy and relax as well as continue healthy habits.

2.     Focus on strength training vs. cardio

Strength training over cardio will help you have a higher metabolic impact during recovery time as well as help assure you maintain muscle mass.

3.     It is okay to splurge

Holiday parties can be filled with tons of sweet treats. Just budget for one tasty treat ahead of time during your day, then you won’t feel so guilty about enjoying one.

4.     Eat a healthy snack before attending a holiday party

Do not go into the event hungry from a day of fasting. This can often lead to overindulgences on sugary treats. Eat a lower calorie snack ahead of time and drink plenty of water.

5.     Everything in moderation

Complete deprivation of things can lead to bigger issues. Have the things you like, just in smaller quantities.
