Hello Hokido: Japan’s Flavors Arrive in Smyrna

Hokido Japanese Restaurant brings fresh fish and an unforgettable, high-end Japanese dining experience to the suburbs.

Tucked in the heart of Smyrna, Georgia, Hokido Japanese Restaurant is quietly redefining the suburban dining experience one pristine slice of sashimi at a time. In a town better known for its Southern charm than sushi, Hokido stands out as a beacon for lovers of authentic, high-end Japanese cuisine.

At the helm of Hokido are husband-and-wife duo Alva and May, with May serving as both culinary mastermind and interior designer. Step inside, and you’ll immediately sense the harmony between modern minimalism and traditional Japanese sensibility. The space is clean, open and intentionally simple allowing the food and experience to take center stage.

For those who prefer dining under the sky, Hokido’s outdoor patio offers a relaxed setting ideal for a quiet lunch or cozy evening. Adorned with flowers and lit by fairy lights strung through the trees, the patio brings a sense of magic to the meal—an extension of the cultural immersion Hokido offers.

At Hokido, dining is more than just a meal—it’s a journey into Japanese culture. Twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the kitchen receives shipments directly from Tokyo’s famed Tsukiji Market. These fresh fish selections, often based on Japan’s seasonal harvests, are the cornerstone of Hokido’s evolving menu. From delicate slices of bluefin tuna to rare, rotating offerings, the quality rivals top spots in Buckhead or Midtown—without the traffic.

Favorites include the Kobe Wagyu Beef, seared tableside before melting in your mouth, and the signature Bluefin Tuna Platter, which showcases each part of the fish in a way that encourages anyone to take a bite.

True to its roots, Hokido also honors tradition. Alongside its creative sushi, the restaurant features a curated selection of Japanese sake, with plans to introduce a premium collection of Japanese whiskies once their full liquor license is approved. Beer and wine are already available for classic pairings.

Soon, guests will also be able to enjoy hand-prepared Japanese green tea, made at their table using imported equipment. This interactive experience will complement Hokido’s anticipated green tea tiramisu, a homemade dessert that blends elegance with innovation.

Hokido’s omakase option offers an intimate, chef-curated dining experience that’s perfect for a date night or girls night out. Designed for a minimum of two guests, the omakase invites diners to embark on a culinary journey where the courses are never the same. This tasting menu is guaranteed to turn your meal into a memorable event.

Whether you're a seasoned sushi lover or simply looking to try something new, Hokido invites you to explore the tastes and traditions of Japan right here in Smyrna. With fresh ingredients flown in from Japan, a thoughtful blend of modern and classic dishes, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere, Hokido is more than a restaurant—it’s a cultural experience. Come for the flavor, stay for the journey.
