Children are the lifeblood of our communities, and it's crucial that we recognize their importance and invest in their future. Local charities Kids Matter International and House of Shine hold this truth at the highest value and work tirelessly to give kids from all backgrounds their best chance possible.

Kids Matter International, a Southlake local chapter of Houses of Hope International created in 2006, exists to enhance the lives of children in need by supporting a housing facility in Honduras and an orphanage in Guatemala. The Kids Matter Boots and Bling Annual Charity Event is their biggest annual fundraising event. They work closely with Kohl's to raise money for necessities such as new clothing and shoes for kids that otherwise would not have the opportunity to shop for themselves when they grow out of their old hand-me-downs. The charity ball was well attended by Southlake citizens and business owners who are ready to share their love with the community. Calabrese's own Shawn Horne was the MC for the event, encouraging his fellow community members and friends to bid on the auction items graciously donated by businesses throughout the community. It was a great night for Southlake and the children in the community who need the support!

House of Shine, a non-profit museum located in Grapevine, aims to grow confident and self-aware leaders by offering courses, field trips, self-discovery workshops and more to help community members realize their potential and discover what makes them shine. On April 1st, they hosted the inaugural Change Bowl, an event where local students were able to pitch their ideas for improving their schools and/or community in front of the community. Local community leaders judged the ideas pitched by students and awarded funds to the students to implement their ideas. All of the ideas presented were so original and insightful; it is clear that the community is full of Change Makers ready and committed to making the world a better place for everyone. Visit House of Shine to find your "Shine" and learn how to make a difference in the world just by discovering the gifts that make you unique.

Every child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential, and with our support, they can achieve great things.
