Upon leaving the Army in 2005, Jonathan Viguers wasn’t sure what he wanted to do in civilian life. However, after speaking to firefighter friends who strongly believed they had the best profession and encouraged him to join the ranks, he found his calling.
Nearly 17 years later, Jonathan continues serving as a firefighter and paramedic through the Killeen Fire Department. Every day he does his part to effect change, he realizes all over again just how noble this path is.
“When you arrive on the scene and can help someone in their time of need, it’s a very satisfying feeling,” says Jonathan. “Someone might be having the worst day of their life, but they are happy to see you because you’re there to save the day.”
Outside of his 24- to 48-hour shifts, Jonathan may be found making special events even more special. With his wife, Meredith, he owns the catering company Let Us Do The Cooking and a mobile taproom with Tapville Social.
“Along the same lines as firefighting and EMS, it’s about being able to come through, with the addition of doing it better than the other guy," says Jonathan. "You walk away, whether you profited or not, having given your client an experience that few or no other companies were able to provide."
Jonathan hopes to leave a lasting impact on those he serves as a first responder and entrepreneur. Alongside Meredith, he has catered for generals, presidents, heads of state, and foreign dignitaries, and made appearances at RodeoHouston, Austin Celtic Festival, Midland County Fair, and Liberty Fest. Their days are full of unforgettable experiences.
“If you believe in the product or service you’re representing, you have to have enough devotion to it and enough patience to see it through,” says Jonathan. “Just give it some time.”
