These two drinks are all you need to get into the happy, holiday spirit!

Gatherings full of fun and frivolity will be oh so much better when guests are served one or both of these delightful potables. No more eggnog in a cardboard container, this one will blow that storebought goo away! And have you ever tried a hot buttered rum? You must. Yours will be the happiest house on the block! 

Hot Buttered Rum

  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 stick (1/4 cup) unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup packed dark brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup dark rum

Bring water, butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and salt to a boil in a 2-quart saucepan over moderately high heat. Reduce heat and simmer, whisking occasionally, for 10 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in rum. Serve hot.

Prep Time: 15 mins.

Serves: 4

Amazingly Delicious Eggnog

  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 5 whole cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 12 egg yolks
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 1/2 cups light rum, or to personal taste
  • 4 cups whipping cream
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh ground nutmeg

Combine milk, cloves, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla, and cinnamon in a saucepan, and heat over lowest setting for 5 minutes. Slowly bring milk mixture to a boil, stirring constantly.
In a large bowl, combine egg yolks and sugar. Whisk until fluffy. Whisk hot milk mixture slowly into the eggs. Pour mixture into saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly for 3 minutes, or until thick. Do not allow mixture to boil. Strain and let cool for about an hour.
Stir in rum, cream, 2 teaspoon vanilla, and nutmeg. Refrigerate overnight.

Prep Time: 1 hour 20 minutes, then overnight

Serves: 12
