Reducing formality, clean lines, eat-in kitchens, and a mix of modern and traditional are just a few of the current home trends Stewart and his team at Stewart Knowles Construction (SKC) are seeing desired with custom builds right now. Unique is something SKC boasts in every home they create, and this Roger Lane home does not fall short.

“Our homes have every detail hand picked with our designer,” says Stewart, “From custom blended paint, fixtures, and tile exclusive to SKC, we want every home to feel custom and curated. For this project, we redesigned a popular plan that we thought needed a more transitional and modern exterior.”

Stewart has been a licensed contractor since 2006, and is an 11th generation Wilson Countian, so although they do build outside of Wilson County, here is where his heart truly is, and where he is proud to pour his work into.

“This is home, we're local, you can't throw a rock and not hit someone I'm related to,” he says.

“Nearly all of our vendors are local. We buy lumber, roofing, doors, paint, cabinets, it keeps the money and resources hyperlocal,” he shared, “I enjoy driving by dozens of our homes on my daily commute. I see our customers at school functions, church, and restaurants, and some have even become part of our team. We build outside of Wilson County, but building in your hometown is something special.”

Having an experienced builder may help homeowners keep from overlooking details, especially when considering a forever home. Stewart says there are a few things to consider when aging in place.

“If this home is your last stop, make sure it's functional for every season of life.  When designing someones forever home, we reduce or eliminate steps, recess the shower floor, and finally make sure hallways and rooms are adequately sized,” he explained, “Plan for the kids to leave, and plan for their return by creating functional zones that will be used by guests later.

If the idea of building a custom home feels too daunting, SKC has a selection of stunning inventory of move-in ready homes like this one available to choose from throughout Wilson County.

Many of our customers are choosing to move from ornate trim and moldings and opting for simplicity and informality; shedding the formal dining rooms in place of larger eat-in kitchens.
