No matter the season, there is always a good reason to stop for ice cream. From an after school snack to a celebration, or just craving a sweet treat, ice cream has a way of bringing people together. I visited three local shops serving up sweet treats, unique flavors, and welcoming spaces where the community can gather.
Main Street Sweets
What started as a lighthearted joke between friends quickly turned into a cherished neighborhood destination. When owners Loren and Jason Tyler and Samantha Lockwood opened Main Street Sweets, they pictured a place that was more than just an ice cream shop. They wanted it to be welcoming, where families could gather, slow down, and make lasting memories together.
The shop serves a variety of classic homemade ice creams locally crafted in Kansas City. Whether you lean toward sweet options like Blue Cookie Jar or the rich caramel notes of Gooey Butter Cake, or prefer fresh fruity flavors like blackberry and wild strawberry, there is something for everyone.

Good Day Ice Cream
Expanding into Blue Springs was an exciting step for co-owners Erin Caselman and Ryan Robinson. They set out to create a simple, nostalgic neighborhood spot centered around spreading everyday happiness. Whether it’s an after-school reward, a post-game celebration or an evening outing, Good Day was built for life’s simple moments. The community support quickly showed Erin and Ryan they had found the right place.
Beyond the ice cream, Erin and Ryan also focus on giving back. They partner with local schools, youth sports teams and community organizations to support the neighborhood that welcomed them. Not sure which flavor to try first? This Just Got Serious is a fan favorite, but feel free to sample a few flavors before making your choice.

Main Street Ice Cream
For co-owners Jose and David Barrios, opening Main Street Ice Cream in Blue Springs was all about creating a welcoming space where neighbors feel like old friends. As a child, Jose fondly remembers visiting a local ice cream stand after school. That memory stayed with him, inspiring the warm atmosphere he and David have created.
To keep things personal, their ice cream is crafted in-house rather than purchased from outside vendors. Making everything on-site gives them the freedom to create their own recipes and unique flavors. For first-timers, the Strawberry Cheesecake is a standout with real cake pieces folded throughout, while the Caramel Brownie pairs a classic vanilla base with rich caramel and bite-sized brownies. It is a true neighborhood spot where great hospitality comes standard.
