Houston's Framing Experts

Hanson's Art & Frame, serving Houston for more than 35 years, shares advice on quality custom framing.

Serving the Memorial area for over 35 years, Hanson's Art & Frame recently redesigned their space to enhance the customer experience. Their new location at 14340 Memorial Drive offers a large, modern gallery filled with expertly curated works from local and nationally recognized artists, as well as museum-worthy antique maps, and artifacts. Their gallery selections include exceptional artifacts like an original and complete Arrowsmith world-atlas, original works from renowned local artist Taft McWhorter, and a wide collection from a host of emerging local artists. Hanson's expanded its high-quality offerings by adding the gallery to their already notable framing service providing customers with an extensive selection of high-quality framing and advanced art-mounting techniques.

We sat down with the framing experts at Hanson's Art & Frame to find answers to commonly asked questions and debunk custom framing myths.

Three Myths About Quality Custom Framing

The big-box retailers have a larger selection of frames.

This is a huge misconception. The reality is, Hanson's carries over 800 unique frames. If we somehow can't manage to find the perfect fit in-store, we will work tirelessly to source the perfect frame. Meanwhile, the big-box stores reduce their selection each year and may only carry around 300 options.

A frame is a frame, and quality does not matter.

Hanson's frames are constructed of real wood imported from around the world, not imitation wood like "MDF" used at most major retailers. MDF breaks down over time, especially in humid environments like here in Houston, and could leave your beautiful art-piece inside of a deteriorating frame.

High-quality framing is too expensive.

This may be the greatest misnomer of all. Large retailers charge huge markups for any non-standard size frames or intricate techniques such as float-mounted, making your pieces really stand out. So, while very basic framing may appear less expensive, you will often end up paying more overall for a lower quality product!
