How Do You Define Success in 75 Words?

We asked a few esteemed Valley men to divulge what keeps them fulfilled, inspired, and accomplished. Here's what they said.

Larry Fitzgerald

Former Arizona Cardinal

You want to succeed in your professional life and career... and you want to succeed in your personal life; family and philanthropy. I define success as being the very best you can be in everything you aspire to do. Success is making a positive impact on people. I'm a firm believer you can do anything you set out to do.

I try not to personalize success. I just try to remain grateful and humble. The successes I've been part of always involve many others. I have a deep sense of gratitude for my mentors. I also have an overwhelming sense of pride for the team and culture I'm a part of here in the Valley. At this stage in my life and career, it's more about helping younger culinarians achieve their goals and celebrating their successes.

Ryan Johnson

Host & Executive Producer, Breaking Par TV Show

Success is like a well-crafted TV show - it doesn't happen overnight, and there's always a blooper reel behind the scenes. While the spotlight shines on the polished final product, few see the late nights, the coffee-fueled brainstorming sessions, and the hours of content on the cutting room floor. I believe success is realized during the journey; it’s about embracing the chaos, laughing at the mishaps, and knowing that the show must go on - just like Breaking Par.

Co-host, The Johnjay & Rich Show, 104.7 KISS FM | iHeart Radio

Success is about more than just achieving goals or accumulating wealth. It's about living a life of purpose, integrity, and fulfillment. As a father of three boys, success means instilling in them strong morals, integrity, and character so they can navigate life with confidence and compassion. Being a loving husband is equally vital, as it fosters a supportive and nurturing environment for the family to thrive in, creating a legacy of love and respect. Boom!

Co-host, The Johnjay & Rich Show, 104.7 KISS FM | iHeart Radio

Success is a chase. I’m an eternal optimist who always feels that God inspires. Follow the inspiration and that gets you closer. I feel like it’s always my first day on the air and I’m excited to get another shot at a good show tomorrow. If there’s ultimate success, then for me it’s from my family — my wife, Stacey, and our kids. Physically, mentally, spiritually... it’s all cooking at a high heat... and that is more important than fame or material wealth. Loving what I do and the people in my life makes every day an outrageous adventure, and that sets up the success.

Scott Grigg

Grigg's Group powered by The Altman Brothers

Success, as a luxury real estate agent, transcends mere transactions. It embodies a legacy of exceeding client expectations, crafting unparalleled experiences, and redefining industry standards. It's about cultivating enduring relationships, understanding unique desires, and curating bespoke solutions. For me and my agency, success lies in the artistry of architecture, the mastery of negotiation, and the orchestration of seamless transactions. It's measured not just by sales figures, but by the enduring impact felt by our clients.

Paul Colwell

Managing Director, Cullum Homes

Success, to me, is a balance between professional achievement and personal/family fulfillment. Growing up, my parents always tried to instill three keys to success: do your best, do what’s right, and treat others as you want to be treated. These have been part of my success criteria throughout my time as a Naval Officer, as a family man, and at Cullum Homes. True success lies where career accomplishments are enriched by the love and support of family.

Success is having the freedom to spend time on what truly provides a sense of fulfillment. For some, that could be achieving business or financial goals, while for others, it could simply be spending time with family. Success varies greatly from person to person, but for me it encompasses various aspects of life, including career, relationships, health, and personal development.

Dr. Michael Wolff

Southwest Spine & Sports

The richness of life lies in striking a balance between family, health, and work.
Together, my wife and I raised five children while building an exceptional medical practice devoted to returning patients to the active lifestyles they love; a passion we see echoed in our own lives on the hiking trail, a morning run or laughing with family and friends. Balance brings forth a grounding sense of clarity, connection and caring, which makes me a better doctor, husband, and dad.
