Huntsville's Soulful Siren

Musician, Singer, Songwriter Victoria Jones Releases A Vinyl

Huntsville's own soulful siren Victoria Jones keeps telling stories through music and songwriting. She is currently partnering with Leesta Vall Recording Studio in Brooklyn, New York to release a vinyl comprised of LIVE performed singles.

What inspires your songwriting?

Life, love and my faith inspire my songwriting; I’m also very much inspired by other people’s stories.

What was the inspiration for this latest album?

I look forward to releasing a full-length album one day, currently, I’m most excited to partner with Leesta Vall Recording Studio in Brooklyn, New York to release a vinyl comprised of LIVE performed singles. Some songs are old, some songs are new but all of them will be stripped down and performed acoustically.  This vinyl will feature a brand-new song of mine, called “Somethin' Bout”— an R&B song about living in the moment. Listeners will be able to buy the vinyl and be able to stream my new single on all streaming platforms.

What recurring themes can listeners find in these new songs?

Contentment is the recurring theme of my new songs;  I hope to encourage listeners to live life, free from comparison.

Have you always had a love for music? What inspired this love?

I’ve always had a love for music but my love for songwriting developed overtime. I started off writing poetry and had aspirations to be a spoken word artist. I wrote my first song when I was fifteen ; from there, my love of music and songwriting started; it put me on a trajectory of creating intentional music that embodies different elements of life and lessons. Connectivity inspires my love for music—I love connecting with people.

Does your hometown and the South provide inspiration?

My hometown, Huntsville, and living in the South very much inspires my music. My hometown (and the South) forces me to stretch out and embrace lived-in experiences—here in the South, relationships are valued, conversations are meaningful and no one is rushed. Such echos my feelings and approach to songwriting—I like to take my time and pen meaningful words and conversations. Additionally, I love clean instrumentation and the sounds of guitar—guitar is my instrument of choice and I love incorporating it into my music.

Who have been your music mentors?

I’ve been blessed to have many different music mentors and people that have spoken into my life, musically. I have a long list, but the following local heroes have blessed me the most: Canita Rogers, Gloria Betts, Cedric Draper, Kelvin Wooten, Codie G, Daniel Adamek and Johnny Okwu.

What can we find on your playlist?

You can find a plethora of different sounds, artists and genres on my playlist. I love all types of music and sonic textures.

Why is music education important?

Music education is important because music teaches you creativity and soft-skills such as collaboration and articulation. It’s also an amazing aid to help remember and retain information. Jokingly, I would never know my days of the week if it wasn’t for me singing it to the tune of "The Addams Family" theme song—I have to thank my Kindergarten teacher, Eula Battle, for that.
