Coffee Cake Heaven

Mama’s Sour Cream & Cheese Coffee Cake

2 ¼ cup flour

1 cup sugar, divided use

¾ cup butter, cold

½ teaspoon baking powder

½ teaspoon baking soda

¼ teaspoon salt

2 eggs

¾ cup sour cream

1 teaspoon almond extract

8 ounces Cream cheese, softened

½ cup of jam or preserves of your choice

1/3 cup sliced almonds

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Grease and flour a 9” spring form pan. 

Combine the flour and ¾ cup sugar into a mixing bowl. Cut in butter and mix until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Remove 1 cup of crumbs and reserve. To remaining crumb mixture add baking powder, baking soda, salt, sour cream, 1 egg, and almond extract. Form batter and spread over bottom of pan and thinly up sides of pan about 1”.

In another mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, ¼ cup sugar, and 1 egg. Blend well. Pour the cream cheese mixture over batter in pan.

Spoon jam over cream cheese, randomly and then sprinkle the reserved crumbs over top, followed by the sliced almonds.

Place in oven and bake for 55 – 60 minutes, or until browned.

When done, cool before serving.
