Vacations, long days at the pool, and camp adventures may now be memories, but that doesn't mean there isn't time to squeeze in a few more fun activities. From top-notch museums to performances and fun park attractions, Houston has loads of things to do with kids in the heat of August. We've rounded up a few to help you beat the end-of-summer blues.

Sloomoo Institute

Houston's only interactive slime playground opened last spring to rave reviews. The 23,000-square-foot venue features countless ways to immerse yourself in slimy goo. The Lion King

Celebrating 25 landmark years on Broadway, The Lion King continues its ascent as one of the most popular stage musicals in the world. Since its premiere on November 13, 1997, 28 global productions have been seen by over 112 million people. The award-winning production will be at Houston's Hobby Center through August 4. The Commons at Hermann Park

The $48 million Hermann Park renovation opened this spring. Named The Commons, the fully renovated park features larger-than-life play structures, including a gorilla, snakes, alligators, and a rocket ship. Everything at the colorful park is a nod to Houston's culture. The interactive water area resembles Houston's bayous, and food trucks and picnic areas add to the fun. hermannpark.org

Mindworks at The Health Museum

The Health Museum debuted MindWorks, a hands-on, bodies-on psychology exhibition on loan from the Ontario Science Centre. MindWorks brings ideas like decision-making, memory, and emotions to life through playful, interactive exhibits based on cognitive psychology. The exhibit encourages visitors to step into their minds and explore how they think, feel, and react in a playful and exciting new way. thehealthmuseum.org
