Since its inception in 2015, the Kirkland Community Foundation (KCF) has been a beacon of local philanthropy, channeling the community's generosity into impactful initiatives that enhance the quality of life in Kirkland. Originally established as the Kirkland Parks Foundation, KCF expanded its mission to address a broader spectrum of community needs, including housing, education, the arts, and more.
In September 2024, Carmin Dalziel stepped into the role of Executive Director at KCF, bringing with her a wealth of experience in nonprofit leadership and a deep passion for community engagement. Carmin's approachable leadership style and commitment to inclusivity have fostered strong connections within the community. "I've been passionate about community building throughout my career, with experience spanning nonprofits, government, and faith-based organizations," Carmin shares. "Joining KCF was a natural step, allowing me to channel my skills into fostering a more connected and resilient Kirkland."
One of KCF's flagship programs, Ignite Kirkland, exemplifies its commitment to empowering local nonprofits. In 2024, this community-led grant program supported 26 nonprofits with over $45,000, addressing diverse needs from youth programs to environmental initiatives. The 2025 cycle is scheduled to open in the fall, with more details to be announced in mid-summer.
KCF also manages Area of Impact Funds, allowing donors to contribute to specific causes such as Health & Housing, Art & Culture, Parks & Environment, Learning & Innovation, and Community Connection. This approach ensures that contributions align with donors' passions while addressing the community's most pressing needs.
Beyond grantmaking, KCF supports grassroots projects like the revitalization of Fisk Family Park and the installation of native plantings along the Cross Kirkland Corridor. These initiatives not only enhance the city's aesthetic appeal but also foster a sense of community pride and ownership.
For those looking to make a lasting impact, KCF offers various giving options, including donor-advised funds and legacy giving opportunities. "We connect donors and businesses to the local causes they care about," emphasizes Carmin."Together, we're building a healthy, vibrant, welcoming, and sustainable Kirkland."
