Little Heroes Park Founder Roger Rekate Shares Passion for Youth and Christ

As the commercial airliner Roger Rekate was taking home began to dive and a flight attendant ran by saying “we’re going down,” Roger quickly realized how short life can be. He also realized the power of prayer and began that effort fervently. Miraculously, the pilot regained control of the plane and it landed safely.

That was 16 years ago. And though Roger remembers it like it was yesterday, so much has come of that experience, it seems a lifetime ago. “What I’ve come to realize is…there’s a beginning and an end in everyone’s life, and what you do each and every day matters.”

Growing up in St. Charles, Roger was active in sports. After moving to Springfield and starting a financial advisory business—Advisor Ink--he continued his love of sports by coaching his own children’s teams and numerous others.

He started going to James River Church in Springfield, Mo., where he was encouraged to serve in Prison Ministries (which he did for eight years). Then, a mission's trip to El Salvador opened his eyes to the needs of children in war-torn areas. His passion grew stronger for working with youth...nationally and internationally.

Eventually, he formed a non-profit called Life’s Journey and developed Little Heroes Park near Branson. He says the goal is for youth to enjoy sports while sharing the gospel with them to grow in faith. Children of military families, police officers and firefighters are free…the “little heroes,” as Roger calls them. "Although we know all children are Little Heroes in the Lord's eyes."

At Little Heroes, similar to a golf course, there are 9 “stations.” After hearing The National Anthem in the multi-purpose building, the teams of children, youth, and parents head out to these areas which include fishing, soccer, basketball, roping, football, archery, martial arts, baseball and golf activities…each with a corresponding bible verse.

“It’s a way for the whole family to have fun, discover truth, and make memories, because we believe that faith and values should be inspired in the next generation.”
