An already impressive architectural treasure, thoughtfully designed for family and flow, provides the perfect backdrop for a young family to breathe new life—and color—into every corner.

The homeowners who enlisted Cameron Howell Interior Design have three children and entertain family, friends and colleagues often, so it was important that the interior reflect their hospitable nature while maintaining the thoughtful, inherent beauty of the home’s natural flow.

The vibrant, fringed entry table is so fabulous it will stop you in your tracks—just long enough to slip out of your coat and accept a welcome cocktail. It offers a glimpse of what awaits inside.

“The client has excellent taste and is not afraid of color. She really trusts the process; she trusts me—even when I suggest a chartreuse lacquered vanity in the powder room!”

The homeowners wanted each room to have a purpose for their family, with furnishings that not only look good but also stand up to everyday life. The formal living room includes a game table that has served as both a homework station and a spot for mahjong. Each space from the high-traffic hallway to the formal dining room received a durable floor covering from Kiser’s Floor Fashions.

In the great room, original exposed beams bring warmth to the vaulted space, while a sleek steel window-and-door system floods the room with natural light and opens the home to sweeping views of the park-like grounds. JD Caldwell helped reimagine the space for maximum enjoyment, adding new bookshelves and creating a seamless connection between the interior and the backyard beyond. Commissioned paintings by Lauren Matsumoto, featuring birds that symbolize the couple’s twin girls and son, are thoughtfully displayed among the shelves.

With each completed room, another favorite emerged for both designer and client. But when it comes to your home, perhaps they should all be favorites. Certainly in this instance, each one is a true reflection of the fun-loving family who lives here, filling every space with their own sense of color, personality and style.
