Ingredients for Amazing Kitchens

Tips and Products for the Heart of Homes

Kitchen and Bath Images, LLC in Brentwood is a full-service kitchen and bath dealer that's been in business since 1995. The owner, Vicki Edwards, is a certified kitchen designer with more than 30 years of experience in the industry.

“Kitchens are the main hubs of the home. I like to interview clients to find out how they use and work in the space. Is it a one-cook or two-cook kitchen? Do they entertain a lot? Once I know this, it helps me plan the space,” Vicki says.

Here, Vicki offers some tips on what an amazing kitchen should have:

Good Quality Cabinets

These are worth the extra money because they will look beautiful and last many years.

Tip: Look for soft-close and self-close drawers and doors.

State-of-the-Art Appliances

Do research; there's a lot of new technology out to consider, such as steam ovens and induction cooktops.

Tip: Focus on stainless steel appliances, which are durable, easy to clean and match any decor.

Granite Countertops

Although quartz is the hot commodity right now and is the trending choice, granite has a depth to it that can only be found in nature. Plus, it doesn’t scratch easily and resists heat better than quartz.

Tip: Avoid marble. It’s beautiful but stains and scratches easily.

Cast Iron Enamel or Fire Clay Apron Sinks

These are very popular for the vintage farmhouse look, but stainless steel also is a good choice that's easy to keep clean.

Tip: Choose single-bowl sinks, which are the trend right now. If buying a stainless steel sink, look for 16 gauge steel.

Backsplashes

Bigger formats, such as subway tile, are popular now.

Tip: If it’s within the budget, run the countertop material up the wall.

Islands

Islands help make a good work triangle (sink, cooking surface and refrigerator), which is important for a really good workspace.

Tip: A good functional kitchen should take precedence over beauty.
