A Maine island getaway rich with history and natural beauty, The Inn at Diamond Cove is on Great Diamond Island in Casco Bay. Just a 30-minute ferry ride from Portland’s Old Port district, the Inn is the centerpiece of Diamond Cove, a small private island community of beautiful condominiums that was once Fort McKinley, a military base built between 1891 and 1907 to defend Portland Harbor during the Spanish-American War. This off-the-grid location is perfect for those that want some R&R in nature with limited phone service. With no cars allowed, be prepared to bring everything you need on the ferry with you. Pro-tip: pack a cooler with snacks, drinks and anything you might want, most units come equipped with a fridge and select with kitchenettes. Ferries do run all day but you’ll likely want to stay put. Don’t forget to pack books and bug spray! Fill up on delicious food in Portland and then head on over to The Inn at Diamond Cove for the ultimate relaxation vacation. It is the perfect destination for families seeking outdoor fun and to turn off the noise of the busy outside world and have some relaxation and for couples looking for a romantic retreat. All the beaches on Diamond Island are pretty small, some have Adirondack chairs. Take time to explore either by going for a run, walking or asking to borrow a golf cart. Soak it all in.. you deserve it! Pro-tip: bring food, drinks, and snacks (there are refrigerators in units and kitchenettes in select). You will need books, bug spray and a tennis racket. Breakfast is served every day, order blueberry pancakes for the table. For dinner, we definitely recommend the fresh crab cakes and/or lobster salad.
