Interior Refresh

5 ways to give your home a spring makeover

As winter gives way to spring we find ourselves in an ever-changing world. Spring is my favorite season. It brings forth new beginnings, a fresh start. As the sun starts to shine, birds are chirping and fresh green grass starts to grow it gets you in the mood to start freshening up your home.

Here are 5 things I like to do every spring to brighten and freshen my interiors.  We all live very busy lives so sometimes it’s nice to spoil ourselves with a few simple pleasures that make life just that much better.

First things first....De-Clutter.  Clean off those counters, give your windows a cleaning, organize the pantry, go through the closets and make up a donation box. By simply providing yourself with a clean slate your home will immediately feel lighter and brighter.

Speaking of brighter...a fresh coat of paint can do wonders. It’s a small investment but can make a huge impact. Take a weekend and freshen up your walls, add a pop of color or just brighten up your trim.

Now it's time to put on your green thumb.  Adding a few green plants will not only enhance your air indoors but brings a since of life and movement to any space. You don’t have to go big, but a couple small potted plants placed on your kitchen island, entryway table or even your bedside table instantly bring a spring fresh feel inside. You can easily pick up a few plants at your local home improvement store or, if your thumb is not so green, artificial plants will give you the same feeling without the watering.  I also like to spoil myself with a fresh flower bouquet once and a while and what better occasion than spring.

Now let’s talk about a few luxuries that are always a nice way to start off the new year. New bedding is first on the list. There is nothing like a fresh pair of sheets.  They are so welcoming and will assist in a good night's rest.  Look for breathable cotton or linen blends. As the nights start to get warmer you will be more comfortable in a cool fresh bed.

The last thing on my list for a Spring makeover are a few new throw pillows and possibly a new area rug.  I try to change out my sofa throw pillows seasonally. My secret is to buy the same size covers so I can easily change them out and store my extras folded up in my linen closet. This way I can have multiple looks but not take up a huge amount of space.  By just changing out a few pillows and rug you can get a whole new look without breaking the bank.

I hope these tips inspired you to give your home a quick and easy spring makeover. Cheers to spring and be sure to follow me on CityLifestyle.com!
