For Trey Williams of Primerica, True Investment Begins with Serving Others

Trey Williams, more formally known as Joseph Rufus Williams III, brings a unique perspective and a lifetime of exceptional experiences to his career as a financial planner with Primerica. Which is why he understands that each client comes with a unique story and benefits from personalized financial and risk management strategies.

Trey and his wife, Sara, married in 2004 in Spain and they have two sons, Samuel and Ezekiel. As a family, they enjoy spending time together and homeschooling creates fun adventures and learning opportunities. Also, driven by a strong desire to connect with and serve others, Trey and his family have sought exciting opportunities in Chattanooga and around the world to make a difference in people’s lives.

In 2012, the call to serve others took the family to Iraq. “We went overseas for a few years and worked with a nonprofit organization,” says Trey. “I taught at a school and ran a soccer academy with refugee kids in the northern part of Iraq. So, we were there during that time with our two kids that were, at the time, ages one and two.”

Currently, Trey partners with his family to serve the local community through their church, Rock Point Church, and other local nonprofit organizations like the Women's Enrichment Center, where his wife served for several years, and Lionhearts Fitness.

“My kids started going to Lionhearts Fitness first and then we decided to get involved as a whole family as something we could do together,” he shares. “At Lionhearts Fitness, they help kids to face their fears and overcome the challenges and the hard things in life. The obstacles are difficult and can be hard to do, but this is a safe environment for kids and adults to come for free fitness and overcome those challenges.”

Professionally, Trey’s call to serve others by helping with their finances grew organically as people frequently trusted him to give financial advice. He found himself researching options and providing guidance, so when an opportunity arose in 2009 for Trey to officially begin working in the financial services industry, it was a natural fit. Trey worked as a financial planner until the call to serve overseas, and when the family came back to America in 2016, he returned to that role.

“It's something I really love doing because I get to help people in arguably one of the most stressful areas of their life, which is dealing with money,” says Trey. “I get to help bring peace of mind for people on the things that they're worrying about and that are keeping them up at night.”

Through Primerica, Trey offers customized financial and risk management strategies for clients, including retirement planning, college savings planning, non-retirement investment accounts, and term life insurance. “I strive to really help families understand how money works by providing education, understanding the needs of my clients, and then helping them to accomplish their goals and ultimately become financially independent,” he shares. “I take time to get to know each client’s unique situation. Then I put together different strategies and tweak those until we create a plan that fits.”

For Trey, serving the community through his work and volunteer opportunities, as well as empowering and partnering with many local small businesses to connect them to resources and people to help them grow their businesses, integrates perfectly into the culture of Chattanooga. “Chattanooga still has small-town feel because people are so welcoming here,” shares Trey. “This is a community that seeks to help others succeed and people are excited about your success. That is very unique to Chattanooga and speaks volumes about the people and the community here.”
