Cultural organizations thrive because people believe in their value. Museums are places where curiosity is sparked, perspectives are broadened and connections are made across generations. Behind every exhibit, program and school tour is a network of supporters who make this work possible. At Atlanta History Center, our members and donors are the foundation of everything we do.
At Atlanta History Center, every membership and every donation is an investment in something bigger than a single visit—it is an investment in our shared story, our community and future generations.
Their support helps preserve more than 33 acres of historic landscapes, houses and gardens, along with artifacts that tell Atlanta’s story—from its earliest days to its role in shaping the nation. Memberships and contributions fund the conservation of these collections, ensuring they remain accessible for decades to come.
Donations also fuel our exhibitions and programs. From national exhibitions to local stories rooted in Atlanta’s neighborhoods, our donors’ generosity allows us to present engaging, research-driven experiences. It supports educational programs that reach thousands of students each year, many of whom visit Atlanta History Center for the first time through school partnerships.
Equally important, philanthropic support helps expand access. Membership programs and donor-funded initiatives allow us to offer reduced-price and free admission days, community events and outreach programs that welcome visitors from across the region. These investments ensure that history remains open, accessible and relevant.
In recent years, donor support has enabled major improvements—from restoring historic structures to upgrading galleries and technology—so we can better present the past to today’s audiences.
We recently closed our capital campaign, Future Atlanta. The philanthropic community of Atlanta invested $60 million in our mission over the last two years. These funds provide support for several exciting exhibits that we will unveil throughout 2026, our centennial year: an exhibition and beautiful coffee table book highlighting Atlanta’s history with 100 objects from our collections, a redesign of the Goizueta Children’s Experience featuring Atlanta’s professional sports teams, an expansive exhibition on the Civil War era and an immersive exhibition on the Cherokee and Muscogee Trails of Tears.
Every gift, large or small, plays a role. Membership dues help sustain daily operations. Annual fund contributions provide flexibility to meet emerging needs. Campaign gifts help us dream bigger and build for the future. Together, they create a strong, resilient organization.
When a donor supports Atlanta History Center, they are doing more than making a donation. They are preserving stories, inspiring learning and ensuring that Atlanta’s history continues to be explored, shared and celebrated.
