In Nashville’s thriving wellness community—where fitness studios, recovery lounges, and holistic health practices are part of everyday life—one concept stands out for its simplicity and science-backed approach. OsteoStrong Nashville, founded by local entrepreneur Diane Miller Mulloy, is helping people strengthen one of the most important—and often overlooked—parts of the body: their bones.
Unlike traditional gyms or fitness programs, OsteoStrong focuses on improving bone density, muscle strength, and balance through a highly efficient protocol known as osteogenic loading. The experience is surprisingly simple. Members spend about 10 minutes once a week using specialized equipment designed to safely stimulate the skeletal system and trigger the body’s natural strengthening response.
The result? Stronger bones, improved balance, and a proactive approach to long-term health.
For Mulloy, the mission behind OsteoStrong is both personal and deeply rooted in her passion for preventative wellness.
A New Approach to Strength
At first glance, OsteoStrong doesn’t look like a gym. There are no rows of treadmills or heavy weights, and members don’t leave drenched in sweat. Instead, the centers focus on guided sessions with patented machines specifically designed for osteogenic loading.
“People are often surprised by how quick and simple it is,” Mulloy explains. “But the science behind it is incredibly powerful.”
The concept is based on Wolff’s Law, a well-established scientific principle stating that bones adapt and become stronger when placed under the right type of load or pressure. OsteoStrong’s equipment allows members to safely apply pressure to their skeletal system above body weight, triggering the body to rebuild and strengthen bone tissue over time.
During each session, members work with a certified coach who guides them through four specialized devices that engage muscles, bones, and joints throughout the body. Many sessions also incorporate additional wellness technologies such as vibration plates to stimulate the nervous system and improve balance.
The centers also offer recovery and wellness modalities including Biocharger energy therapy, compression boots, cryoloungers, and hydromassage, which many members use to support overall health and pain management.
While the experience is brief, the impact can be significant.
“The beauty of the system is efficiency,” Mulloy says. “In just a few minutes each week, you can trigger the body’s natural ability to get stronger.”
Why Bone Health Matters
Bone health rarely gets the attention it deserves—especially for women. Yet the statistics are striking. Women can lose 20 to 25 percent of their bone density within five years of menopause, dramatically increasing the risk of fractures and mobility issues later in life.
Mulloy believes this is one of the most important health conversations people aren’t having early enough.
“Fractures are actually the number one cause of hospitalization for women over 55,” she says. “But bone loss is silent. Many people don’t realize there’s a problem until they’ve already lost significant density.”
For this reason, OsteoStrong often attracts members who want to take a preventative approach. While many clients arrive after receiving a diagnosis of osteopenia or osteoporosis, Mulloy says the ideal time to start focusing on bone health is earlier—typically in the late forties or early fifties.
“Prevention is always easier than repair,” she says. “If people start strengthening their bones before significant loss occurs, they can protect their independence and quality of life.”
Members are able to track their progress through weekly strength feedback and periodic REMS bone scans, which measure bone density and structural strength over time. Many also notice improvements in everyday activities—lifting luggage, climbing stairs, or simply feeling more stable while walking.
A Personal Mission
Mulloy’s commitment to bone health comes from firsthand experience. She watched her own mother struggle with osteoporosis, which led to repeated fractures and years spent in rehabilitation and assisted living.
“It was heartbreaking to watch,” Mulloy recalls. “She spent much of her later life recovering from injuries that might have been preventable.”
That experience inspired Mulloy to explore ways people could protect their health earlier in life. A lifelong entrepreneur with a passion for wellness, she ultimately discovered the OsteoStrong concept and immediately saw its potential to make a difference.
“I love building businesses that improve people’s lives,” she says. “This one truly does that every single day.”
Mulloy comes from a family of entrepreneurs and has built businesses throughout her career. Before opening OsteoStrong, she founded Milagro Biofuels, a company focused on improving air quality across Tennessee by developing alternative fuel solutions.
Her path to Nashville began decades earlier. Mulloy moved to the city in 1982 from a small town in Tennessee to attend Vanderbilt University, and she has called Nashville home ever since.
Bringing OsteoStrong to Nashville
Mulloy opened Nashville’s OsteoStrong centers in 2015, selecting Belle Meade and Green Hills for their accessibility and health-conscious communities.
Originally, she planned to open just one location in the SPACES building in Belle Meade. But as interest grew, it quickly became clear that a second location would better serve residents across the city.
“Nashville is an incredibly educated and wellness-focused community,” Mulloy says. “People here are proactive about researching new ways to support their health.”
Like many innovative concepts, OsteoStrong took time for the community to understand. But once clients began seeing results, word spread quickly. Today, the centers receive referrals from both physicians and satisfied members.
