Mayor D.C. Reeves

A Visionary Leader Focused on Long-Term Investment in Pensacola's Future

Since taking office in November 2022, Mayor D.C. Reeves has established himself as a dedicated leader focused on the growth and revitalization of Pensacola. As a Pensacola native and a father, his leadership is guided by a personal commitment to the city’s future, blending his passion for the community with a forward-thinking approach to urban development. Reeves’ vision is rooted in creating a city that respects its history while embracing opportunities for growth and innovation.

A key priority for Mayor Reeves has been revitalizing the city’s existing infrastructure. He believes that maintaining and improving what already exists is just as important as building new developments. Under his leadership, Pensacola will see a $50 million investment into public spaces, including parks, community centers, and civic buildings. These improvements range from updated basketball courts and new water fountains to the redesign of the Hollis T. Williams Greenway and renovation of the Cobb Center.

Reeves emphasizes that taking care of existing assets is critical to creating a city that’s both functional and beautiful. By focusing on infrastructure maintenance and revitalization, Reeves is preparing Pensacola to grow in a sustainable, responsible way while preserving the quality of life for its residents.

Affordable housing is another cornerstone of Mayor Reeves’ vision for Pensacola’s future. He understands the importance of building a city that accommodates residents at all income levels. From affordable pallet shelters to luxury condos, Reeves is committed to ensuring that there are housing options for everyone. “We need housing at every level,” he said, recognizing that the city’s growth must be inclusive and accessible.

In addition to addressing immediate housing needs, Reeves is working on revitalizing historically overlooked neighborhoods. The redevelopment of the old Baptist Hospital site is one example of this effort. This ambitious project aims to bring not just new housing but also jobs, businesses, and community amenities to an area that has long been underutilized. By focusing on smart, sustainable development, Reeves is helping to shape a Pensacola that thrives both economically and socially.

The arrival of the American Magic sailing team is a pivotal moment in Pensacola’s history. One of Reeves’ most significant accomplishments is his role in helping to bring the American Magic sailing team to Pensacola. In his efforts to convince American Magic to make the city its new home port, Reeves has positioned Pensacola as a central player in the world of competitive sailing. The team’s involvement in the America’s Cup—one of the most prestigious sporting events globally—will elevate Pensacola by bringing national and international attention to the city.

Reeves has worked tirelessly to ensure that the necessary infrastructure, facilities, and support are able to be put in place for the American Magic. This move represents much more than just hosting a world-class sailing team; it’s part of a broader effort to position Pensacola as a hub for maritime activities, sports tourism, and economic development. The American Magic team’s presence will likely lead to an influx of visitors, sponsorships, and media attention, all of which will help to fuel the local economy and create jobs.

A key component of Reeves’ economic strategy has been the revitalization of Pensacola’s waterfront and downtown areas. This is reflected in projects such as the redevelopment of the Maritime Park, which aims to create a vibrant space that blends residential, commercial, and recreational opportunities. The presence of American Magic will undoubtedly contribute to the growth of this area, attracting both tourism and investment. We have already had our first Foiling Week, with Pensacola being named the North American hub for the event. It was the first time that the event has taken place outside of Lake Garda, Italy since its inception. Another new asset to our bay is the GL52 series whose second round of racing is this month from April 10th-13th, the first coinciding with our first Wine on the Water last month.

By enhancing Pensacola’s waterfront, Reeves is helping to create a space that can serve as a destination for both locals and visitors. This includes improving public amenities, supporting local businesses, and ensuring that the city’s infrastructure can accommodate an influx of tourists. These efforts align with Reeves’ broader vision of sustainable, long-term development that benefits both residents and businesses alike.

While his focus is on the future, Mayor Reeves also recognizes the importance of preserving Pensacola’s rich history. A key example of this is his commitment to saving the Gibson School, a historically significant building in the city. His efforts to protect this landmark while allowing for responsible development exemplify his belief that Pensacola’s past should be honored even as the city moves forward.

Reeves’ approach to growth combines respect for the city’s history with a forward-thinking strategy that encourages modernization. By finding a balance between preservation and development, he is ensuring that Pensacola retains its unique character while adapting to the needs of future generations.

What sets Mayor Reeves apart from many other leaders is his deeply personal investment in the city. As a father, he sees the long-term implications of the decisions made today. “How we treat the city now will affect her lifestyle here,” he reflects, acknowledging the responsibility he feels to create a city where his daughter—and other future generations—can thrive. This personal perspective shapes his leadership style, making him more attuned to the needs of families and individuals in the community.

Mayor Reeves’ vision for Pensacola’s future is focused on long-term growth and sustainability. His leadership is not about making short-term fixes or undertaking projects that will have a fleeting impact. Instead, he is focused on creating a Pensacola that will remain vibrant and thriving for generations to come. His investments in infrastructure, housing, and public spaces are laying the foundation for a future where Pensacola remains a city that people want to live in, visit, and invest in.

As Pensacola continues to grow, Mayor Reeves is working to ensure that the city’s expansion is both inclusive and sustainable. He is committed to making thoughtful, responsible decisions that will benefit all residents while ensuring that Pensacola remains a place of opportunity and prosperity.
