WHAT CATALYST OR TURNING POINT STARTED YOU ON YOUR PERSONAL WELLNESS JOURNEY?
In 2011 I had a HUGE wake-up call. I was in a toxic marriage, severely overweight, trapped in a cycle of self-destructive thought, in an occupation that didn't provide any sense of fulfillment and without a regular health practice or routine. There was a moment I realized that there was so much more to life, so I began the journey of self-discovery, which led me down a beautiful path physically, but also emotionally, mentally, spiritually, and occupationally.
WHEN YOU FIRST STARTED, HOW DID YOU KNOW WHAT DIRECTION TO TAKE AND WHAT YOU NEEDED TO DO?
To be honest, I didn't know. I was so unsure, BUT I knew that if I took the first step, the rest would follow. I sought a therapist as well as a coach, much like myself, who guided me. That experience gave me the knowledge and confidence needed to stay the course and see it through!
WHAT CHALLENGES DID YOU FACE ON YOUR PATH TO A HEALTHIER LIFESTYLE?
The biggest challenge I faced was overcoming the deeply rooted thoughts and feelings that held me back from being successful. There was a strong presence of fear and self-doubt that had to be addressed BEFORE I make significant improvements to the other areas of my life.
WHAT ARE THE GREATEST REWARDS OF YOUR JOURNEY TO WELLNESS?
The greatest reward to this journey has been discovering parts of myself that had been suffocated for far too long. My passion, creativity, and zest for life! A close second is that I have journeyed to a place where I get to help others on their journey. I have learned the power of a good coach and mentor and hope to support others as much as I possibly can!
TELL US ABOUT YOUR JOB AS A HEALTH COACH AND HOW YOU HELP OTHERS FIND WELLNESS.
As a Health Coach, I help guide and mentor my clients to achieve their health goals through lifestyle and behavior modifications. Whether their goal is to lose weight, prepare for a healthy pregnancy, or to just feel better overall, we identify their unique approach to wellness and integrate effective strategies to make them successful!
WHAT ADVICE DO YOU GIVE SOMEONE WHO IS TAKING THE FIRST STEPS TO BETTER HEALTH?
If you are looking to take steps towards better health, I advise two things: First, make small changes and have grace for yourself as you work to identify what works for YOU! Second, seek help when needed. There are many people out there, like myself, that can carry some of the load for you! Having allies or a strong team around you can significantly increase your possibility for lasting change.
WHAT DOES HEALTHY MEAN TO YOU?
Being 'healthy' looks very different for us all, given our current life circumstance, however, I think it's the integration of states of physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. When we look at health as our whole being, we begin to unlock our full potential. This means taking time to explore other areas of our lives and finding ways to maximize them. The result of such an integrative approach is abundance, in every sense of the word!
