If you’ve gone to Salvador Dobbs or Sisterdale Line you have most likely heard JR Castro’s original blues and rock music. Music and songwriting became his life after graduating from Boerne High School. Singer songwriter Katherine Dawn helped him find self-preservation and honesty in songwriting. He was writing full time with seasoned songwriters across the hill country. Being one who always liked the competitive song writing challenge, JR set his sights on Cheatham Street Warehouse in San Marcos and moved there to pursue his career. Interacting and jamming with recognized talent, JR discovered the truth in songwriting, performing and listening. He played in New Braunfels, Gruene, San Antonio and across the hill country.
JR recorded his first album "Addicted" with Jackson Parten and Dan and Clay Oliver also known as Folktronic. His passion for the stage grew intensely. JR recorded his second album "See You Soon" with Jackson Parten, Ryan Shortt and The Reed Brothers. With releasing his music on I-Tunes and Amazon Music his vocal strength and confidence on stage grew. Hosting the “Unforgiving Song Swap” across Texas, JR finds talented and original writers and brings them to the forefront of music and the stage today.
Poker became a new love a few years later. He used his money and skill from playing competitive poker to survive as a singer songwriter. He still plays at The World Series of Poker and local card rooms as often as possible. Inspired by his poker community and friends Cache Carver, Brandon Moore, Slate Angel, Lazer and Barry Blanchard his dream is to win a WSOP tournament in the future. He is a director and friend of the Hill Country Poker League owned by Jerry & Cathy Cooley. To this day JR is still raising money for different charities and small communities all across Texas.
JR is now living in San Antonio and is a Hydrogen Sulfide Technician in the oil field industry. His fiancé is a home health nurse and she has two children at home. Working seven days on and seven days off, JR has time to pursue his music, poker, fishing, reading and caring for his new family. www.jrcastro.com
